Last Wednesday 9/9/09 just after the big announcement from Leica there was a knock at my door and upon opening it, I found an employee of our USPS delivering an envelope. I signed for it and upon entering the living room found a cashier's check for $7400 USD. I soon realized that it was an old debt I had given up on but here it was... just in time to buy an M9. I would promptly send off my deposit. But, I just can't do it, seven thousand USD is a Lot of Money for a camera and I can't do it. I don't really need this money at this time so it's purely discretionary but I still can't do it. Maybe when all the dust settles and the price comes down I will but not now. So sad tale but I won't be joining all the happy people who are waiting in line to get that wonderful camera. I do hope that Leica will prosper and do a turn around business wise and succeed.

Well at least celebrate the old debt clearance with shiny new lens or something!

Even a noctilux wouldn't cost $7400 (depending on condition)
But i'm sure there have been something on your want list for some time :D

You are stronger than I my friend. I would have lost it and went right to the camera shop. It was a bad idea to go play with one the other day...

Very Wise indeed my friend, let the honeymoon period of the Leica M9 settles for a while, there will be a time hopefully when its price will be cheaper.

And it seems to me that You're happy with what You already have :p

Hm .... $7.400 ? How about the MP3 with a 50/1.4 ASPH ? ;) Not digital but also full-frame and "exchangeable" sensor. :D

Bank most of it - and use the rest to travel somewhere photogenic, where you can stay "on-site", take photos with the gear you have and eat a nice meal or two in the bargin.

You'll enjoy yourself and have no reason at all to feel sorry.

...Mike

Ha ha, awesome! It's fate tempting you!

I just found out something similar last night--some unexpected income appears poised to enter my life in the coming months. But even if there weren't a million things that need doing around the house (including exterior painting), I don't think I could buy an M9...I don't think I'm capable of treating a $7000 camera with the insouciance that I need to treat my cameras if I'm going to bring them all over the place and shoot different things.

If this check comes in, I'm going to go for a used M8 and wait for used M9's to come into being in the next few years.

Congrats! What a treat that must be for you.

A fraction of that would by a whole lot of arista premium.

I think it is a wise decision. Beyond the "I want one" hysteria, and believe me I wouldn't say no, we don't really know that much about it yet.

Good for you on all accounts! Now, put that money in the bank, keep it for another trip to Barcelona or Paris, take your cameras and lots of film... and you will still have some leftover! :)

honestly it's probably a smart move. I really had an itch for one until I looked at the example photos. It isn't that they don't look good it's just that it isn't my M4.

Always nice to get a big check in the mail though. hm?

Buy some Leica stock and hope the M9 hysteria continues. Cash out when its high enough and enjoy an M9 with some extra cash in your pocket.
