I LOVE the Planar 35!

A really impressive lens in the Contax line up is in my opinion the distagon 35mm f1.4 very high contrast and sharpnes at f2.0 !! Nice bokeh too. There's a aspherical element used and has floating element for close range correction. The design is about 30 years old !

IMO, the 35 suffers from having brilliant siblings on either side of it, i.e., the 28 Biogon and 45 Planar. Comparisons inevitably are made and the 35, which is a fine lens, isn't at the absolute level of the other two lenses. Judged by itself, it does quite nicely, thank you.

That said, there has been Internet chatter about less than attractive bokeh from this lens. I've even seen examples posted and they were less than pretty. For some reason I can't google up the links just now. Maybe Zeiss' lawyers had them taken down. 😉
