I need 300 pledges to buy a copy of my Milton Keynes book to be published

Vicky,
I can't comment on your chosen path to publication and you may well have looked at other options but I have been in the habit in the last few years of preparing and printing a one-off copy of my image sets through Blurb. They do have the facility to on-sell additional copies from their website on behalf of the author/photographer, so if it proves difficult to make the numbers you need you might look into that as an alternative.

I have already looked into blurb and it is the contingency plan. But it would require a lot of money up front which i do not have for things like book launxhes and sale or return deals with local bookstotlres. Plus the book would be more expensive for people that way, i.e closer to £20 for a 160 page book. I am optimistic as i have yet to enlist the support of many in Mk, but that will change over the next couple of weeks. Thinking positive!

I just filled in the form and clicked too. I accidentally discovered that the quantity has to be a numeric character else the validation disallows the entry (I first wrote 'one', which was rejected).

Also, on the page "http://vickylamburn.com/south-downs/" the link for Milton-Keynes in the link-bar points to the South Downs page, which is where one already is !

Good luck with the next 140 or so interested people :)

Thanks for the feedback, unfortunately I can't really do much about the form except catch the mistake after it has been done as the form is pretty much out of my control. However the error message is a bit wrong as you suggest, I'll try to fix that tonight.

On the second part, yes I found that one today myself. The reason I haven't fixed it just yet is that the day job is websites and I'm sick of them when I get in in the evening -- so I will get around to fixing this error probably in the next 20-30mins.

Good luck with the next 140 or so interested people :)

Thanks, it's a little way to go yet but the saving grace is that I haven't contacted everybody yet, and I have only contacted one organisation in MK so far, the people who will perhaps be most interested of all. I have the press calling me tomorrow so this should hopefully result in coverage to seal the deal within a few weeks!

Thank you again,
Vicky

I tried to register for your book on your site but the link does not work; indeed, there is no link attached to the "Buy The Book" heading!

Hmmmm that's strange as I can see it?, and plenty have registered. Can you try again? If not what web browser are you using

Thanks for trying!

Vicky

I was using Firefox. I'll try from a different browser.

Do you use something like NoScript with Firefox? This happens when Javascript is disabled - the feedback from isn't hardcoded into the page, but is dynamically generated in a chunk of Javascript from facebook.net.

Thanks everybody again for your support.

On the use of Javascript/Facebook etc., this was a website I needed to produce quickly and something that needed to work, I also wanted to make use of social networking so that the thing could get 'out there' to people and groups I do not directly know and I know that has had some impact.

However, this weekend I will be looking at improving the website a bit now I have a few hours to spare and make a 'non-Javascript/Facebook' version.

I hope it hasn't caused too much trouble; but I hope you understand the reasons for producing a registration system like I have.

133 to go and I have a local paper getting in on the act with this week's edition (out on Wednesday), I really hope that gets this into the sub-100 stage. By the end of April I think I should have just about made it.

So, any more for any more? :D

Thanks again,
Vicky

p.s. I do test my websites so they do run on any browser, well except Lynx and MSIE 3.2 ;)

How's it going, it's going OK. Things have slowed up a bit now but on good news, I did make it into the local paper this week and I am really hoping that it gives it a boost, although yesterday the paper went out (being delivered over yesterday/today -- it's a free local paper) and I saw a deluge of 3 extra pledges :D But I really hope by the end of the weekend it's below 100 to go. I still have a few other places to get in touch with though so I'm not out for the count yet!
