I recently acquired a IIIF and I don't trust the straps on the case, plus the case is bulky and awkward when opened. I want a nice strap that won't "clash" with the classic look of the Leica. Any suggestions?

Luigi's are beautiful. Clearly top of the line. If you need a $15 option, there's a nice, simple leather strap available from fedka.com.

The most introvert snobbery in a Leica strap, is to use black cloth shoe laces - I have seen several screw and a few M bodies carried around in this manner in the UK. On two ocassions the white M model lettering had been (not covered by black tape, but) "painted" over with black felt tip pen!

Like Joe, I'm a big fan of the Domke grippers myself, the thin 1" ones. I prefer the swivel models, but those who are worried about nicks in paint bodies might prefer the non-swiveling version. Pretty utilitarian. Very adjustable. Workmanlike is perhaps a good adjective.

The Luigi straps are also quite wonderful, I have one that came with an M7 when I got it, but it now resides on a (gasp) Nikon F4S.

Gordy's wrist strap is the bee's knee's so you should get one. Mine looks great and has been getting a lot of hard use.

UPstrap or the standard issue Leica M strap. Stronger, more durable, harder to slash than leather. Or the simplest Domke as suggested in post #12

I have an artist and artisan on my G2 - it's an all-leather strap that has a protective leather piece so the ring won't scratch your camera body. Nicely designed, easy to fit and very secure. Well worth the dosh...

You won't find a better quality product and buying experience that with Luigi. I've three now (!) and they definitely suit a Leica. The wrist strap really disappears when you use it.

How about custom kangaroo hide plait?
