...I'm starting to pine after a digital camera.
gasp! I think Ansel Adams might have twitched in his grave

The object of lust is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LC5. The pluses for me are the "Summicron" lens, a half decent optical viewfinder on a digital, handles like a RF and the manual focus ring on the lens barrel. Would have never known it's existence until I bumped into a fellow photographer and mistook it for a Contax G, according to her my face was sight when I was informed that it was in fact a Leicasonic.

...Now the only problem is finding one...

Ah yes, the Dark Side of the Force.

Just imagine that, with the money that you'd be spending on a Leicasonic, you could buy yourself a decent M3 for 200 bucks more. ;)

i think that's the cam gene w has. maybe ask him about it.
I have a Panasonic Lumix FZ-20 -- a different cam. It's a mini-SLR type cam with a fixed Leica-branded zoom lens that is 38-430mm equiv, IS, and f/2.8 across the range. It's lightweight and makes a good cam for my nature photography.

WHERE!!! Tell me now!...

In my quest I did find a brand spanking new DMC-LC1 for a $1200NZ, I'm guessing that they are clearing the stock for the new line up. Nice price, but I'll wait until I get back from Melbourne and see how much I have or have not spent.

Stu, do not worry, last week I ... *gasp* did some street shooting using the Canon Powershot A20 I got for taking the camera and coffee pics...

And what is even worse I sort of ... enjoyed using it

I think there are some guys in the FSU who can and will engrave "Summicron" on any lens you might already happen to have... would that help?

"Name-Dropper" lenses really annoy me. At least the 35mm F3.5 "Elmar" on my Leica Mini has four elements in it, and is a Tessar design. Too bad the Summarit on the Leica "Mini-Deluxe" was not an F1.5; at F2.4 I suppose it is "super-speed" for an AF P&S. But "slapping" Summicron on a digital camera zoom lens seems like heresy. They could have called it a "zoom-Nikkor" for all of the optical resemblance to its namesake.

We need some more names for lenses to get those engravers to work. How about the "Vario-Laxacron" for slow super-zooms.
