I'm making good on my assertion that the best LTM is an M (any M except maybe M1) with an LTM adapter set.

Oh, having a 1a doesn't count. Guess focus on that baby only.

I like the smaller body for certain times and/or moods.

Everyone should have an M body and a ltm body, IMO.

Vick, last night I easily put in a coat pocket a IIIf with collapsible lens to carry to a concert. My M3 would not have quite fit, so I disagree that the M is always best. ;-)

I was thinking of getting rid of a IIIf myself.
for serious shooting, I just prefer an M2.
Still, these are great little cameras, and after having invested in it more than its value to get it good as new, I think I'll keep it, and maybe add an elmar 3.5 for a truly small combo.

M6 or M3
Nikon F

A IIIc is usually in my pocket and does most of my pictures but it is not a camera for everyone and everything. To each his own and Good Luck. Joe

Just sold my LTM as well. Was a beautiful iiif that Leica Solms had completely rebuilt. Just had too much difficulty with the focus. The last time I used it was at a dance performance and I just guess focused it as it was too dark for the rangefinder. Beautiful mechanical pieces though.

I like the viewfinder and rangefinder patch of an M-body more.
You can use LTM lenses on a M body with an adaptor but not the other way round! 😱
However a Barnack is fun to shoot with once in a while.😀

I'm keeping my IIIc. The small size and sturdy construction make it a perfect companion for hiking/backpacking, or to slip into a bag or coat pocket for lightweight travel. Ditto my Canon IVSB2. I love my Ms too but for certain outings I reach for the Barnack.

I had a IIf for a weekend, then sent it back. My twitching fingers just made ir nearly impossible to load and unload. I have enough trouble with my M3. But, it was such a beautiful camera! I fell head over heels for it right out of the box!

I just got a Tower 35, whichi s a better Leica clone. I also use a Leica IIIf and a Canon IVsb. These cameras a very special. I like using them with wide angle lenses and the classic 5cm lens. My favorite though, is a Standard Leica.

I have (n-1) of Frank's n Holy Grail camera types. No Rollei 35 S or T.

If I ever do break down & buy a Leica it will probably be a Barnack. I have the 50/3.5 elmar but use it on a Zorki 2. Makes a great pocket camera but admit it's not for everybody.

I always come back to my LTM after using the M's for a while, I would rather sell my M's than the only Barnack I have, an early II modernized by Leitz in the early fifties with a flash synchro

Don't think I can part with mine. It's a nice contrast shooting with an M then switching to an LTM.

Over the years, I've acquired a taste for Barnacks. They're beautiful cameras and I cannot imagine I'll ever sell them. I'm not ashamed to admit that I've become a collector with a growing number of Leicas, Barnacks mainly, in his display cabinet; but then, a collector who shoots with his museum pieces.
