I attended a wedding today, took my old M4 & Summicron 35. I had taken some shots as a guest, and the pro photographer doing the wedding came up to me later and said (I see you have a real camera) I said I was just shooting an old M4 & some old B&W film. He struck up a conversation with me about how he used to shoot all film & had both a B&W & color lab, and how much he liked my real camera, we had a great chat. At the end of the evening he told me he was going to take up film again for some of his work. The gear he had was as big as a small outboard motor. I just walked around the guests just shooting some candid shots. Bottom line is the Leica M4 is still a real camera in many peoples eyes. I know I got some shots he could not as a guest, and it was a great conversation starter. Long live the real camera.

And agree with the gentleman. When I go out and the IIIG hang on my neck, I always feel that I carry a REAL camera.
 
Nice uplifting story, maybe you could post some of your results. Hopefully the wedding photographer follows through and starts shooting film again. Over on photonet there is a thread about wedding photographers getting back into film, seems they prefer taking photos to sitting in front of a computer.

I Did the same yesterday on a friend weeding .. just use the Nikon S & S2 while both photographers where using D700 & D3X (and lovely glass too I must concede, that 14-24 just kill me).. let see how it unfolds..
Btw neither of them ever saw a Nikon RF before... amazing!
 
He is too late to come back. Soon film photography will come to a hobby of yachting, golf and later - space tourism price range...
 
Haha, real camera, okay. Nice of him.

I'll attend a wedding next month as a guest, too, and will bring my M6 and ZM Biogon 35 with some film.
 
When I had my spanking new D700 when it was first released, ppl never stop and say 'that is a nice camera'
Since using my zeiss ikon and MP, I've had quite a few strangers stop and say nice things about my camera.

Don't get me wrong, I don't shoot film to get compliments for the cameras I own but just something i noticed.......
 
Yes I`ve had that a few times mostly from pro photographers ie people who have a concession somewhere or are selling photographs.
Rest of the time (like yesterday in Manchester) it`s"why are you still shooting film".
It`s very odd ...who cares.
I usually pull out a digital but that seems to confuse them more.
 
If only brides didn't want 2,000 shots to choose from these days. I'm afraid the days of a wedding album containing 12 square photos is long gone. :)

If I ever get married again (God willing), I'm going to have one of those wedding albums with 12 square photos in it, and lots of film shots from it too. If I want digital, I'll have the film scanned.

In Japan it hasn't really changed. It is still the same.
About 10-12 typical shots. Inside a studio with different outfits, then a few (very few) of the actual ceremony.

Actually that's the thing I get asked more than actual questions about the camera on the rare occasion this sort of thing happens!

The first time I ventured out into public with my M8 some guy said ... "It's nice to see someone still shooting film!"
