I hate Leica's. I Hate them. Hate them hate them hate hate hate. :)

That is , until I find one for super cheap at a garage sale or thrift store or one of you nice members gift me an M5 or something.

In the mean time, they are horrible; worse than HOA's...(Homeowners Associations) and aren't half as awesome as my new Petri 7s or Yashica GSN or XA or my Mamiya C2 or even my Nikon Photomic FTn.

I have to admit though, that posters like Simonsawsunlight and others(you know who you are) confuse my deep abiding blue collar bigoted monetaryist hatred of Leica's and their ilk when they show such extraordinarily excellent results from them. Shame on you people for using Leica's.lol

I want a film camera, SLR or whatever, that can be hand held down to 1/8 sec and give me sharp images provided I have the skills ... with a viewfinder (optical or other) that is easy to use and focus in very low light.

Oh that's right I forgot ... I already have an Ikon! :D

Me DSLR for landscape, M6 for streets and family shots. I also have an EP-1 collecting dust.LOL.It depends on what I am after and the lighting. Choosing between the two is just to limiting.

Well, Many interesting reaction here :)

I have already answered the OP question, but, now I will provide a bit more pondering...

As I have kept up with this thread, I began to think WHY I bought a Leica M5 and eventually ended up with 2 great lenses after 3 buy/sell adjustments... WHY

Because I like using a smaller camera per say than a DSLR...
Because I enjoy the process as much as the results....
Because I like the sound of a Leica Shutter as I slowly press the plunger....
Because I get the feeling I am more involved with RF cameras...
Because I have to slow down and think about the few frames I am about to use, and make sure I try not to waste them...
Because I secretly enjoy the "Oh, is that a Leica?" questions.. Well, No one has ever asked that Q yet, But I will secretly enjoy the moment if it ever happens.. (never had the $$ to afford Leica until recently (Thanks DAD rip)
Because I Just enjoy photography, any camera can work for me, But, the RF is tops in my book.
Because I decided today, to buy what I need to Develop BW film at home, so I can use my Leica RF more often.

Pink = Figure of speech: Anaphora is a Greek term meaning "to repeat" or "to bring again." It describes an "important and impressive figure of speech" that in English is simply designated as "like sentence beginnings."

Addendum to my previous post: Given sufficient discretionary funds, would I own an M8 or M9 and the Leica glass to go with it? Oh, yes. I've had this love/hate thing for Leicas for decades. Love the look/feel/panache/mystique. Hate the prices.

Good luck with this! Hope you love it as much as I do.

I had a wet darkroom when I was 15 that my dad set up..., I did enjoy the process. But, this time around, It will be a kitchen set up, changing bag and kitchen counter, and a Bathroom to hang dry. I have read a humid bathroom works best with a film drying agent as the last rinse.

I shoot on a mix of film rangefinders (R3A, S3, GIII) and Canon SLRs (5D Mark II, 30d) -- which ones when just depends on the need at hand.

Most of my life 35mm and medium format SLR and some TLR. Then Contax G2.. then digital and now back to film with various rangefinders. I enjoy shooting rangefinders and film in much the same way that I enjoyed shooting sports and reloading. Now, mostly rangefinder. Soon, a bit of digital ... 2011

I shoot only RF, except I bought a Lomo a few days ago... I think it appears that there is a lot of Leica mudslinging going on, but it only appears that way because of the unquestioning Leica love that was here before. Because many people has expressed negative feelings about the M9ti, it seems suddenly Leica has fallen into disrepute around here. In fact, probably 90% of readers here like Leica, they just don't like it's most recent product.

I don't use SLRs in any form... I just can't get into them (used many different ones in the 90s until I discovered Leicas), they always seem too clunky to me. I even owned a Nikon D700 in recent months and didn't like it. I figure if I didn't like that DSLR, I'm not going to like any of them. Now I just use a Leica M8 and a Leica X1 which I would say I split my time between. Once the Fuji X100 comes out, that will gain some of my time as well and I'm currently on the lookout for a non-rangefinder Leica film camera ala the Standard, Ic, or If.

And how can something be "increasingly low," anyway? :bang:
You probably also the guy who has problems with "deafening silence" or "tragic comic", right? :) Anyway, I won't edit my original post, so all pedants and grammar nazis here can have their fun too.

The results of the poll are reassuring so far though, it's nice to see the community haven't changed that much. Must be just me getting more grumpy :)

I think a rationally priced digital RF would shift that balance back toward RF's. I think it's the worsening problem with dealing with film that is shifting people toward other cameras, not a loss of love for RF's.
Very valid point and I tend to agree. I use the tool for the job at hand, be that a digital or film, SLR or RF. My preference for a "general" camera is undoubtedly an RF for size, weight and unobtrusiveness but it's not always practical, since all my RFs are film.

If only someone would make an *affordable* RF that was effectively a classic film RF with a digital sensor. No bells and whistles, yards of menus etc. Just a speed selector, aperture and focus controls. A screen for "chimping" the result, nothing more. That would be ideal for me! Doesn't even need to have a huge MP-count to keep most of us happy.
