I shouldn't be surprised anymore...

Ok. I have no patience :)

1. EP-1
2. 5D
3. RD-1 off course :)

I don't know about the 5D shot. Sometimes a shot just doesn't work, I suppose. I have shot some weddings with the 5D where it has been fantastic.

These comparisons are fun, but so much is dependent on the person doing the post processing, and the limitation of low res jpegs, that they don't mean much to me. Have you printed any of these? How do the prints compare?

Anyone who has used a full-frame camera with a 35mm lens for long periods of time should immediately identify image #2 as being a picture taken with that combo.

You didn't shoot that wide open, however. My guess is somewhere between f/5.6 and f/8.0

Hi PW,

You're dead right. I haven't printed any of them but the for whatever reason the R-D1 does have a unique colour and under my particular workflow they seem to 'pop' more than my other cameras. That is off course, just as they appear on the screen.

Let's just say everyone got the R-D1 right :)

Bingo! 35mm 1/250 @ f/6.3 :)

Good luck and happy shooting :) And don't forget to share the results.

Very nice pics. Also I am very impressed with the Epson rd-1/CV lenses. Not surprised that it appears the Epson supply on ebay has dried up...

what aperture were you using with these?

My mum's 70th birthday dinner today. I had on hand,

5D with 17-35 2.8 L (loaner)
EP-1 with standard zoom
and the R-D1 with the cv 40/1.4

All great cameras but the best shots by far were taken by the R-D1. I should have known :)

I've actually been half-considering selling my RD1s (to get a Coolscan) since I use my M8 so much more these days. The fact that I could instantly see that shot #3 in your comparison was the Epson, and how lovely all these skin-tones are, reminded me why I would bitterly regret losing it.

You brought all that gear to a birthday party? The Epson seems like an incredible camera. What is the largest you can print with that camera?

Great shots, very "film like". Could it be what is noticed about the Epson has less to do with the camera itself than the glass that's usually slapped on it?

Sounds like a lot. But I had the 5D on loan and used it for the family group shot. The R-D1 and EP-1 are always in the camera bag :)

Largest print? Depends I suppose. A3?
