I've had my M7 for 4 months now. I love it so much that I sold my D200 and my 17-55 DX. I can't even imagine having a camera bigger than my M7 anymore. I take it with me everywhere since it is so small. I want to get another digital camera at some point, but I'm patient so a film scanner and M7 is all I need for now. Maybe one day I'll have enough money for an M8! Thanks everyone for helping me make my decision back in July to get the M7. You guys changed my life.
I can't imagine using an SLR again for personal work! Long live rangefinders!

My M5s need red dots!
Well... if you feel that satisfied about it, I guess it's time to congratulate.
Good job!
Now, get a smaller digital camera. You may miss it down the line.

They are very nice aren't they? Do you use the aperture priority exposure? I leave mine on auto and adjust f-stop to taste. Wish I was comfortable taking mine to work, but it seems likely to go missing. So I'm mostly confined to weekends with it.

I always use aperture priority. The meter is dead on accurate. There is no point in setting it myself because I would just set it to what ever it says. I like to have control over depth-of-field, so the aperture is very important to me. The only time I set the shutter is if I don't want it to go below 1/8.

You could get a Bessa with AE as take everywhere back up that you don't have to worry too much if it goes missing.

This seems to be a trend. I am probably going to trade or sell my Canon XTi and lenses for an M. I would still want a digicam so I am also looking at Canon's G9. Lugging that bag is a bear...

I would have sold my D70 a LONG time ago but i have to have it for school and for visual effects work (texture gathering, etc). So unfortunately it stays.
Otherwise I would have sold it, and the 17-70mm lens along with it toward purchase of more leica M glass, etc.
Oh well.

I would have never bought it if I would have been informed about rangefinders when I made my D200 purchase. I had a D100 so the next logical step was the D200. I spent enough money on Nikon equipment to own two M8's by now, and now I have nothing to show for it except some nice pictures I guess.

I don't see why SLR and Rf can't co-exist. One is good for some things, while the other for others. Try doing macro or serious Telephoto with Rf lol.
I have Canon FilmSLR and DSLR for some things, while RF for others, and MF for yet other things. All seem to find some love in my house.

Tonight I have been contemplating getting rid of my d200. BUT, I am thinking of replacing it with a d2x. I will sell my Mamiya 7ii and settle (once and for all) on just 2 systems. My m6 and d2x. The Leica will be for walks, around town, maybe even my only travel camera. The big d2x will be my landscape, animal, bad weather camera. Sound reasonable?

Why are you selling your Mamiya? I was thinking about purchasing one in the future.

Only the Summicron 35 ASPH. I don't really need anything else. If I had extra money to spare, I'd pick up a 50 cron.

That cron is a terrific lens, got a nice kit there.

I've had my beloved and regularly used Leica M-2 since 1971 . . . and the M-4 for the past ten years.
Why would I want an M8 with its' donkey-ass-less-than-35mm-sized sensor?
So my 15mm Ultron could now be a 20+mm whatever?
I don't think so!
Enjoy your M7.

I feel I have too many cameras, and they are not being used to their maximum potential. If I eliminate the Mamiya from the mix, I can focus all my landscape efforts on the DSLR.

About 4 months back I picked up a minty D70s with the 18-70mm nikkor and I am keeping it. Last week I bought a Bessa L with the 21mm skopar and waiting for it to arrive. I am positive that I will continue to use both film and digital for a long time to come. To just stick to one seems a compromise! Next: likely a proper rangefinder such as R4M or the Hexar RF.

... likes film again.
Your story sounds familiar to me ...
After I bought my first Leica (M6) in January this year, my D1x with 17-55DX and 70 - 200 VR were sold. Never looked back, no need for me to have a big DSLR shouting "pro-shooter" ....

I too have just picked up range finder Rioch GX-100 went, Bessa-R stayed. I've been expermenting with lens's now, and the FSU ones are the right price to play with ..... Brings some of the joy back to taking photos ..... For the birds and the rodeo, I just don't see a way to use RF though ....
