Joe, Does that mean "MP" is fine and true?

My M5s need red dots!
And in the meanwhile, here I am, Gene, considering a DSLR...
In my case, it's a Nikon D70. Unlike you, I went, sold my old Nikon glass, got newer lenses in different focal lengths, and now I decided to get me a digitoy camera after I get tenure.
But then, I'm still pretty far from retiring. I wish I weren't this far...
My vote? Go for an M6TTL and any Leica glass.

No, I keep my D60. To be true, I just got a Sigma 17-35 EX DG HSM which is realy nice and focuses at EVs where I cant see anything
Even after I shot 80% Contax G2 and TVS in Cuba.
OTHO, I'm saving for an Epson R-D1 or better a digital Zeiss Ikon.
Anyways, respect for your decision! I never parted with a camera except the Powershot G1 I gave a friend so she can shoot her daughter.

Francisco, Socke, enjoy your DSLR's. They're great cams. It was strictly a size/weight thing for me.

Does that mean that you're out there for a Digilux 2 ?
Nah, I see you with a black paint M4 and 35 and 50 Summiluxes.

On the digital side I *have* been looking at the Panasonic FZ-20 with its stabilized Leica 36-432mm equiv lens at 2.8 constant aperture.

With RF's I'm happy right now with my Bessa and my Zorki 3M... except for that missing Jupiter 8 lens ...

Jep, weight and size is an issue, that was the reason I didn't use the D60 much in Matanzas.
But from time to time I have the oportunity to shoot a 1D MkII with L glass from 17-40 to 500f4. That makes my D60 with 24-85 tiny

Gene, I almost bought the FZ-20 for my wife, amazing camera, amazing Leica 432mm/2.8 constant zoom lens but tons of noise above ISO 100. It's also the size of a 35mm slr.
Bold move getting rid of the DSLR, I have been trying to talk myself into selling my Nikon F4S but can't part with it.

I'll keep my D30, when using film I'm reluctant to "waste" film and consequently make too few exposures. Going digital solved that for me and I like the versatility of a SLR (long tele and macro are fun). OTOH my FEDs are really fun too and small and inexpensive enough to carry everywhere. (I just hope I can learn to "waste" film - just carrying the camera around doesn't do much good..
Off topic DSLR image (for no good reason except maybe demonstrating versatility):

(My only really successful(?) attempt at macro so far. M42 Jupiter 9 and extension tubes.)

I wouldn't bash anyone's choice of shell, even if they have chosen sh.

D'oh!
Contax cameras are nice - I bought my IIIa from Henry Scherer, and it works perfectly. His site contains a lot of good information.

I'm also on the verge of selling my DSLR.. not coincidentally after finding this site.. I always knew digital wouldn't fare well in comparison to film.. but it can be fun
I've got a Nikon D70 setup with various lenses and accessories.. about $1800 invested.. it'll be up for sale as soon as I dig up all the boxes and itemize it all.. I ordered a DMC-FZ20 yesterday, so as soon as that arrives, the Nikon is 'available'
I also agree that DSLR's are just too big.. they require too much forethought.. photography should be more spontaneous
