So I went into a local camera repair shop to check on a Visoflex short mount I was having fixed. After chatting a bit, I asked if he had any fast Pentax K mount lenses. I bought M42 lenses from him before, but never asked about K mount. One that interested me was a SMC PENTAX 1:2/28. Not knowing much about it, I said I'd get it if it was still there when I came back to get my Viso focusing mount. He told me to try it out and he would take $75 from me whenever I happened to stop back.

It has a ding on the filter thread, but the glass looks great. I did a little research on it. I get the impression there aren't many out there, but the reviews are favorable. The version I have was made in 76-77.

Anyone have experience with this lens? I plan on trying it later today on my K10D.

Wow, a 28 f2 for $75 is CHEAP. I'm an Olympus user, and thier 28/2 is over $300 used. Your filter ring dent lowers value, but not that much, so you did get a great deal.

Nice find! I don't think I've ever seen this lens for sale, it's relatively unusual. I would definitely get it for $75 - even if you decide not to use it you could easily make a profit on it.

Btw, you're probably already aware of this but the K10D (unlike the other Pentax DSLRs) will not meter quite correctly with pre-A lenses because of a focusing screen issue. Apparently you get progressively more over exposure as you stop down. If you read DPReview's Pentax forum you might have seen threads about this.

A fine deal. Most Pentax owners were cost conscious so my bet is there were not a lot of these made. The dent in the filter ring can be fixed by a good shop (DAG).

WELL DONE!

Update.

I think I will be keeping using this lens.
The ding on the filter thread does not prevent a filter from being screwed on and off. It almost looks like it was already straightened at one time.
I stopped in at a used/new camera shop to get a filter for the lens and the owner immediately was interested in seeing it. She had never seen this version before nor did her used price guides list it.
I am pleased with my initial testing. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to use it more this afternoon.

Do your best to test for flare issues. That's typical when comparing 2.8 to 2.0 lenses.

BTW, on eBay right now is an entire body and couple lens kit with that lens. $190 last I looked...
