flip, there are so many more brands I'd like to have; FED, Canon, Kardon etc. But I'd need to win the lottery first. The ultimate goal is a Leica IIIcK of course.

Buzzardkid, I've been rationing my canned food this month, but your IIIa is a joy to shoot. Very smooth. The SCNOO normally does not come off either, but I couldn't pose the camera with it attached.

You obviously have it bad - I have tried to get over it by thinning my Barnack collection to 1 1/2 (black II + partly rebuilt K), but it's real hard.

Best solution - just pack up all of those beauties & send them to me 😉

It's no real problem building up a collection but wait 'til you get to my age and realise that your family will be lumbered with getting rid of them when you've gone. I've guess I've spent several years trying to work out what to keep and so on.

It's worse with Leica's and Olympus's cameras because there are so many I'd want to keep and use. Closely followed by Konica, Minolta and Pentax. And my original aim was to have just one of each type and one of each make. Then they can all be kept running and in regular use.

Well, I had one and thought it was just a run of the mill LTM lens and put it on ebay and people fought over it. The "winner" (as ebay call them) said he was very pleased with it and was using it with an adapter on a digital.

Steinheils for M42 mount are decent - not top-notch, but not an ISCO or other cheap dreck, so to speak. A good friend of mine has a collection of M42 bodies and lenses, all in regular use in the city of Paris, and likes the Steinheils telephotos quite a bit.

hmm I have never felt the need for a 135 on a rangefinder, that Steinheil might have to hit the bay and see what the market will bear to help pay for the kit

That's a lovely kit you picked-up !

Steinheil lenses were very popular with the Exakta SLR ( who did not build any lenses of their own)...

They are not quite in the same league as Leitz , Zeiss, or Nikon/Nikkor, but are decent lenses of their period.

You might want to shoot some with it before putting it up for sale...

Seeing your collection makes me happy, the IIIa and SCNOO really could not have gone to a better new owner! I hope you will enjoy it for a long time to come and someday when we go shooting together, I'd like to squeeze off a single shot with it, once more only?

Great thread, this, and what a wonderful collection! I spent last weekend up on the north coast of California happily shooting away w/ my IIIc and Summitar. Barnacks are a good addiction to have, IMO. I'd like to get a rd IIIf some day. I'd also like a Canon bottom loader, too.

after looking at the low $ they have been bringing I think I will just hang on to it (why is so easy for me to buy but so hard to let anything go)
I am having a great time with the IIIf and have enjoyed the pictures of Mr Fibble's fine collection..... do you have a favorite camera and lens combo with all these fine cameras to choose from?

The 1942 IIIc is my favorite user for WW2 Living History Events, combined with a Jupiter-3, Summitar or Summar for black & white photography.
The 1937 IIIa gets the most use with the 90mm Elmar when I want to shot portraits.
The others get used by rotation with various lenses, except for the 1941 IIIc which will remain unused until I die and then I will be buried with it 😉 ,
Johan's 1938 goat-skin IIIa paired with a SCNOO is the latest addition and is well on its way to become a favorite too.

From Left to Right there's a "Wartime" f2/50 Summitar and f4/90 Elmar, the Matching f3.5/50 Elmar lens to the nicely patina'd 1945 Leica IIIC K Grey in the foreground
(which is currently wearing a rare 1943 f1.5/50 CZJ Sonnar T lens), behind that camera to the left rear is a Numbers Matching 1945 Leica IIIC K Grey with it's f3.5/50 Elmar lens, to the right rear is a Numbers Matching 1943 Leica IIIC K and it's f2/50 Summitar and finally to the right foreground is a "Wartime" f3.5/35 Elmar with a VIOOH finder.

Grey paint Leica's are addictive and now getting harder and harder to accumulate, I'm having serious problems supporting my addiction the "dealers" just don't have any of the GOOD STUFF anymore..........I want to add at least one or two more Grey's to the collection, I have to look far and wide to try to
find a fix but lately the well's been dry, just the same old two or three badly overpriced and sadly abused examples hanging on for dear life on evilbay 🙁
(I want to find a 1942 Grey K and a 1944 Grey K still and then that will be all, collection complete! ~ well untill things get really bad again and unbearable then I need a fix again......)

I will also shortly have two more IIIC K Chrome bodies to CLA/Finish and restore.

Grey Painted Leica IIIC K's are lovely cameras and some of the ultimate Leica "Eye Candy" aka "Camera Porn" to look at, drool over and fondle! 😀

Lot's of nice cameras I'm seeing in this thread and it's kool to see a little bit of "behind the scenes" in RFF members collections 🙂

I left out a bunch of Leitz accessories in my shots. This weekend I'll take some shots of my Visoflex+Bellows setup. And maybe throw in some NOOKY 😉

I too love the LTM cameras as I have 3 Leicas, IIIf x2, IIIg, 4 Niccas/Towers. The precision made cameras, their weight and the lenses for them are a joy to shoot with.
