Yes, you need a model II of some sort (e.g. the IIf). Meant originally to be "economy" models, the II's are actually exemplary examples of Leica's fine mechanical art.
I thought the II was Leica's first camera with an "integrated range-finder", when it debuted in 1932 ?
The III was not released until 1933, was it not ?
I think the pre-f IIs look more sleek than the III; the slow-speed knob / front sync on the II-f sort of clutter's-up the front....
On the other hand, I would not refuse a working III-g for an attractive price ( talk about a "cluttered" camera body ! )
For what ever reasons, I have just one Leica II, a black / nickel model from 1932, s/n 77xxx.... but I have four Leica III's: two black / nickel III's from 1933, both in the 117xxx batch, a chrome III from 1934, and a III-f from 1951.
Would like to round-things out with:
Leica A
Leica Null-serie (w/o the portrait on the back)
Leica III-c
Leica III-g.
Would also like to add the following lenses some day:
50/2,5 Hektor
50/2 Summitar
50/2,8 Elmar
50/1,5 Xenon and Summarit
73 Hektor
90 Thambar
35/2,8 Summaron
21 Super-Angulon

There are some lenses left on my wish list as well, including a number on your list Luddite Frank
Here;s a shot of most of the accessories I own that either wear the Leitz brand or are compatible with Leitz products

Mr. Fibble, that's a rather impressive group of accessories you have there.

Thanks Mike,
I see I've forgotten to add an APDOO self-timer and the Leica Collector's Guide and pocket guides.

Yes, but I believe that they kept the II series alive, but at a lower price than the III series.I thought the II was Leica's first camera with an "integrated range-finder", when it debuted in 1932 ?

Are topics like this considered Therapy or Counseling?
Me: "Hi, I'm Rick and I have a problem"
RFF: "Hello Rick!"
"there are so many more brands I'd like to have; FED, Canon, Kardon etc. But I'd need to win the lottery first. The ultimate goal is a Leica IIIcK of course".
Rick I see it did not take you long to reach the IIIcK goal (any chance you did win the lottery) so lets see some pictures and get your impression so far
(maybe I need to set some more goals in my life)

Hah, I believe Tom got round to shipping it today. It's not in my hands yet
But I will be posting some pictures of/with it when it finally arrives.
No luck with the lottery so far, BUT I did get my holiday bonus
...and now it's gone.....

well you have proved you are addicted and we here at RFF congratulate you on the newest addition to your fine collection. Don't worry they are still making money
but not cameras like that.
My recently purchased IIIf came with a 1953 price list and it listed the IIIf with 50 Summicron for $393 which according to my inflation calculator would be $3,310.41 today
