Yes, the Elmar 50/3.5 is sharp even wide open. I just posted some new results with this lens.

I'm not a 'cron (or Elmar, Summtar/ron, etc.) expert, so I can only 2nd (or 3rd or 4th...) the DR. As for not being "contemporary" with a DS M3, pshaw .... I had that combo and guess what ... the DR was a stellarperformer, as was the M3. Besides, they're both old and discontinued, so what's a couple of years?
But as long as Canons and Nikkors are being discussed, why not get into the almost modern age and add a Hexanon?

Thank you Roland and venchka -- sounds like the Elmarit v1 will complete my kit nicely!
It seems, however, that everytime I read a gear thread around here I end up with a new piece of equipment...
