I think I've just fallen in love with Elite Chrome!

I just started scanning a roll of Kodak Elite Chrome 100 which I recently shot with my Contax T, and from the first picture, I had a feeling that this might be the one to go with.

I just LOVE those blue blues, red reds and and yellow yellows. I LOVE how everything looks so natural -- not overly saturated, not overly contrasty, no single colour overly dominant.

Wonderful. (Pictures may follow later.)

EDIT: This is not to say I'm not also a huge fan of Velvia 50 🙂

Ha, that rhymes! So your wish shall be fulfilled! 🙂 But you'll have to wait a little, as I'm still scanning. (And that takes a little time with my scanner if I want the best results possible.)

Actually, a local drugstore had EB on offer recently for a mere 3.95 €. Now it's back to 4.60-ish again. But another local drugstore allegedly sells rebranded EB for 3.05 €. If that's true (I just shot a roll and will try to verify this once it's back), this'll be my allround film for when I'm going to shoot a lot.

That's an issue I hadn't even considered yet, thanks for mentioning it. Could that have to do something with how the slides are stored?

Elite Chrome 100 is not the same today as it was in the 90s, the the edge-code is now EB3. Fading from Ektachromes from my experience both personally and also from things I have read over and over on the Internet over the years has had more to do with the processing at the time, than the film itself. But I'll report back on my Elite Chromes in 15 years time 🙂 In the meantime, make sure you get some prints at very least.

I can only imagine that EB3 is E100G but just not been stored at a specific temperature, and EBX is E100VS.

In terms of Elite Chrome 100 love, I love the stuff, I switched fully to it for slide purposes from Kodachrome 64, previously I used it when I couldn't get Kodachrome. The Extra Colour variant is very good as well, I prefer it to Velvia but I tend to shoot the standard variant the most. Elite Chrome 200 was also very good when it was with us...

Anyway, it has some impressive latitude for slide film as I found out today:

The straight scan was a write-off but a bit of work on the curves and scan settings worked wonders.

Anyway along with Ektar, Elite Chrome 100 is special film.

Elite Chrome and Astrophotography

Elite Chrome was one of the few chromes that had high red sensitivity and was therefore a film of choice for astrophotography. Many nebulae are rich in reds and show up marvelously when using a long exposure with just a 100mm lens. I used to use the Nikkor 105 f2.5 wide open with Elite chrome, exposing for about 10 minutes and stars even at the edges showed no coma. Fantastic lens, fantastic film.

I got a box of 40 rolls of 80 dollars. I had a blast shooting it but I couldn't afford scanning so I sold the last 20 rolls. I'm in dire need of a scanner...

I second the OP's sentiment. I've started to shoot my way through a frozen brick of E100VS, and I'm reminding myself of how satisfying it is.

I like E100VS a lot.

Might have to try some Elite Chrome if I can find it on my upcoming trip.
