Looked like the photographer was using current Profoto flash heads.... I didn't pause and rewind, but the bottom edge - the only part not obscured by an umbrella - looked like new stuff, not 1960s-era gear.
Didn't anyone else feel like the Leica mention was overdone? Like, contrived beyond simple Product Placement stuff? Not like they've ever been mentioned as a client previously.... Wonder what that costs.
I also wonder what the production designer paid on eBay for that 'Mint M2 Box.' Or, if they just mocked it up....

Would only want to be Don's neighbor if there was reciprocity with Megan.

No one in that office would even think to give a "girl" a "serious" camera. The other thing that had me scratching my head was if SCDP has the Leica account and as Don said "a closet full of them" why the hell was Megan using a crappy little Kodak Instamatic?
Can/could 126 film be mounted in superslide mounts? Those mounts for 4x4 slides that were externally the same size as 35mm slide mounts?
Though, I don't remember 126 as a slide film. In '67 I was 7 and the only slides I remember were what my grandfather was making with his Argus. In our family we had some Kodak instamatic then. Wasn't until the early/mid '70s that we got an SLR.

Did you notice they were 35mm slides even tho Megan used an Instamatic - a camera that shoots square format shots on 126 format film.
did not notice that. they're usually so good about details.

If you were Don Draper's neighbor, then he would sleep with your wife. Not worth the camera.

I made my original post BEFORE seeing the end of episode. Don is a sleaze. I'll stick with own M2 and my own wife, thank you.

Just finished up on Amazon streaming (no cable) so a day behind, but noted the Cotton Bowl mentioned in part 1 was between Texas A&M and Alabama Crimson Tide, which was played January 1, 1968. So its Dec/Jan 1967/1968. Full disclosure: my wife keyed in on the comment and looked that up. I'm not that fast.

I wanna be Don Draper's neighbor... SPOILER ALERT!
First episode of the new season of Madmen, Don invites a neighbor to visit his office to pick up a gift. He unlocks a closet and emerges with a new-in-the-box Leica M4. 1967; first year of production. :"Here's your camera.... You'll need a couple of weeks to get through the instructions." Interestingly, the gift is just a body, no lens.
Don gives the Leica M2 to a rich doctor who lives in his apt... A dig at the stereotype of rich doctor/dentist who's a Leica aficionado?
The plug for Leica was a smart idea by Leica marketing but Matthew Weiner the creator of Mad Men with his Soprano's legacy has inherited that same subversive sense of humor which was common in that show.

I don't think it is a dig in that regard so much as it is a way to show how the value of brands and products change in a society over time. Don has stacks of Leicas in his office that he just gives away. I'm not sure but I think he even mentions giving one to his doorman.

Firstly, if it too you until the end of the episode to realize Don is a sleaze then you must've just tuned into the show
Secondly, cut him some slack. I mean, he just gave the guy a Leica. Going by some posts here on RFF it's not that unusual for guys to jeopardize their marriage for a camera

The incident attachment for the Weston is an Invercone!
I have one that I don't use. The meter broke and I gave it away to an artist friend for scrap metal sculpture. But the cone is still here. Does anyone want it?
