I'm thinking of a blog that is almost entirely pictures with some captions.

Something simple and clean. What are some good sites? All I can think of is tumblr but I have no experience with this.

I tried wordpress but it's hard to modify and customize. Bigger pictures not easy to do unless you pay for it.

On the other hand, Blogger can be edited with html for free and there are many great templates and guides. I am also starting a blog and has been making it using blogger and so far so good!

I make no pretense at having any insights into the functionality of the site, but I find the bandwidth consuming, never-ending page approach of many tumblr accounts, that inundate the browser window with a relentless torrent of images instead of archiving them into separate pages, to be a major turn off. In fact, if I punch in an address that loads such a page I just close it regardless of content, now. I don't have a particularly slow internet connection but it's simply too hard, and I couldn't be bothered with such a user-unfriendly way of displaying content. But other tumblr pages I have seen have been more conventional. Perhaps it's related to the page owners preferences?

Regards
Brett

^ It's dependent on the theme and probably a setting with that theme. Mine for example has a 15 post per page limit. For those that go crazy on the reblogs, they probably want the infinite scroll (though most users just view things internally via the dashboard as opposed to individual pages. The design of most Tumblrs are horrendous.).

If you don't mind your photos being lost in the great ocean of reblogs without references, then Tumblr is the way to go. It's also the easiest.

For me blogger is fine. What is great is it is quite easy to use. Mobile version is automatic and works great on any device.

User interface is clean and easy to use.

One thing to consider these days, especially after the Instagram debacle, is your intellectual rights to your content.

It's worth reading the boring policy bits and not just blindly accepting them.

I found Wordpress to be the best in this regard. I think it helps that it's run by hippies from the Bay Area! But it's not the best for displaying your photos. It's more words with photos than photos with words, if you get what I mean.

Like yourself, I wanted a blog with purely photos and caption. I went with Tumblr for the clean look and ease of use. Take a look for yourself to see if this is what you are looking for? http://cranialnerve.tumblr.com/

Stunning photos. Incredible. Amazing.

WOW!
Simply gorgeous stuff!!!

It doesn't matter what camera you are using. It really doesn't. No way would I lower the tone by asking. Nope. I won't
Aww #*%$ - what equipment are you using?

And yes, that's the cleanest, easist Tumblr page I've seen, too.

I have tried both Wordpress and tumblr, and i think tumblr is easier to use. T

What i do not like is the impossibility of posting comments without using a third party plugin.

Also, backup seems to be problematic.

Checked out your blog. What fantastic work. The variety of subjects you undertake makes for interesting viewing but the quality takes it to a new level. This is as good a blog as I've seen anywhere. Congratulations on a great piece of work.

Another vote for Tumblr and one of the simple, no frills themes. But you need to think about the whole re-blog thing. On Tumblr, it's more than likely that your photos (or rather, small JPG copies of your photos) will be shared to some random places with little or no concern for your copyright.

Thank you for your compliments. I'm usually shooting with the EOS 5D Mk II or the Fuji X100. Back to the topic of blogs, I forgot to mention to Barnes that Tumblr offers quite a range of free templates which allows you to conveniently change your look easily. Just sign up for a free account, try posting a few photos and drop it if you don't like it. There's no cost other than a couple of hours to try it out! :)
