Five years ago I got some money for Christmas and sent a deposit to Henry Scherer to put me on the list to get my IIa repaired. I never dreamed that it would take five years to get to the top of the list but that time finally came. Henry was good enough to send me a 12"x12" box along with packing materials to ship the camera to him which included a smaller interior box to place the camera in. Over the years I have shipped many things with USPS with never a problem ..... untill now. I just received a email from Henry and the box arrived heavily damaged, fortunately I paid extra so it had to be signed for on delivery and Henry opened the box in the presence of the postal employee. When the box was opened as you might have guessed no interior box and no camera. Still hoping the camera can be found but this camera came from a close friend that is no longer living so the sentimental value is not replaceable and I am not looking forward to what I will have to go through with the post office to file a insurance claim.
I realize there are worse things going on in the world today
thanks for letting me rant.

i never trust the USPS. they've lost my packages three times since moving to the city.

UPS or FedEX are on their game. even when UPS lost my package temporarily, they called me and told me they'd start searching for it. When they finally found it, they called me again letting me know a two hour window of when to expect it to be delivered. Good service.

I'm sorry for the loss you've had. I don't know what the chances are of recovering it, but I hope whoever took it gets what is coming to them. It all comes around.

I hope it is not something coming around to bite me on the ass for some of the dumb things I have done

I guess all's well that ends well, the post office found the little box with the camera inside and delivered it to Henry today ...... no damage

Opposite of my experience. In my 67 years, USPS has never lost anything I mailed or that was mailed to me. They have given me service that was way above and beyond. I have many amazing stories that I won't bore you with. UPS has lost two packages in the last three months. FedEx is good, but pricey and restrictive.

So glad the camera was found safe and sound. Surely your camera is a IIa, no? I've lusted over one of those for years, to go with my IIIa. Henry did my IIIa in 2003 and it has never missed as beat since. He is the very best. That will be a great little shooter for you!

Similarly I have had terrible experience with UPS and great luck with USPS.

Oh on another note I have 2 Contax's that were done by Henry and they are indescribable .... like using a new old Contax! They put my Leica's to shame.

Great to hear. I too, was on Henry's waiting list for about 4 years. He also worked on a 35mm Biogon I picked up along the way.

Just a heads up for anyone ever thinking of using "THE UPS STORE" to pack anything - they have very little to do with UPS other than some sort of license to use the UPS name. You leave your items at the mercy of the Owner of the store. They schedule pick ups like we would. Just had a horrible with experience with one, while other times, it's been fine. I'll never trust them to pack anything (I would never do it for cameras anyway).

yes the camera is a IIa (must have been thinking about something else when typing and i have now corrected it) i am really conflicted about what to do in the future, I have always used USPS and have a real love for priority shipping
Can't wait to get the camera back especially after this scare

my hats off to Henry Scherer he took this very serious and was sending the post office multiple emails to help kick start them into finding it, which I am sure helped my cause.
can't wait to get my new-old camera back

I am sorry for what you have to endure.
I hav sent over one hundred lenses with USPS, and none got lost or damaged. I may have been quite lucky. Only once, a camera got slightly damaged by USPS on it way to Germany.

Henry is the best, and worth waiting for.
He has fixed all of my Zeiss Super Ikontas: A, BX, and C
They work superbly, and are as smooth as silk.
