I want my Contax back

yes the camera is a IIa (must have been thinking about something else when typing and i have now corrected it) i am really conflicted about what to do in the future, I have always used USPS and have a real love for priority shipping
Can't wait to get the camera back especially after this scare

Obviously this is all anecdotal but my experience with the USPS has been exemplary. Hey, look at it this way. That package was beat to death to the point that it tore open. All the shipment ID, or the great majority of it, was on that external package. They still found the little box and delivered it unharmed. Those are not bad results in my opinion.

No shipping service is perfect, but as far as UPS is concerned, I see why they practice "Knock, Drop, and Run". Many a time I've gotten packages delivered by them that had holes, smashed sides, or just plain flattened. And who can you complain to? Even if you take the unopened package to one of their drop-off centers, they can still deny it was any of their doing. I guess I need to stop perusing the ShopGoodwill.com site. I hate paying three to four times what I paid for an item for the shipping.

I have had bad luck with most carriers. I have occasionally sent birthday or Christmas cards with cash in them, the USPS has lost three of these cards. In the last 6 months USPS has lost 3 out of 10 airmail packages I have sent through them.

UPS handles packages roughly, and I have received items which were broken beyond repair in shipping.

As for Fedex, the drivers in my former neighborhood were idiots. I would come home and find a Fedex box on my porch which should have been delivered to an address on the next street, and on two occasions neighbors have brought Fedex packages to me which were mistakenly delivered to to their homes.

Great News! Your camera will be worth the wait. I have a contax IIa and sonnar that Henry serviced, that I love and would never part with. A Scherer serviced camera is a jot to use, and the results will amaze you.

When it's time for sending the camera back to you, ask the repairman NOT to write his professional name as "Zeiss Camera" or whatever telling anything re. the content on the package within the "From" field, just his name as an individual sending random goodies to another individual.

Even if this sounds a bit harmful for his self-esteem.

No postman needs to know that the package is coming from a cameras workshop.

As usual I try not to put anything on the shipping label to identify that the contents might be a camera or going to a camera repair facility, so it was only addressed to Henry and did not use his company name. The Ironic thing about this whole experience is that I have never shipped a camera in that large of a box before and thought it was so well packaged that it would be nearly indestructible.... I guess I had not counted on the corner of the box getting torn off

I always insist the sender, be it ebay or a shop, put my mobile phone number on the parcel. This way I always know when it will be delivered. never a problem anymore, be it postal service or courier.
