I have a couple of years of experience of photoshop and I use it for the bulk of my coursework at school.

I look at a lot of books, but the book I personally swear by is Photoshop Studio Technques by Ben Willmore (ISBN 0321213521). The book is very conceptual, and gives you some great techniques for touching up and enhancing photos. The book covers Photoshop CS; though the differences aren't extremely different from 7, there are a couple of features the author touches on that don't exist in 7.

Bear in mind it's not a manual, so if you're still fumbling with the photoshop interface, you may want to pair this book up with a dutful reference such as the Photoshop Bible.

i just bought a very simple book, 'photoshop 7 in east steps' by robert shufflebotham.

it's britsh i believe.

very simple and it was cheap at 15 bucks cdn.

The best book is the one you actually read and put into practice 🙂 I'm pounding my way through "Photoshop Lab Color" the recent release by Dan Margulis. David Biedny (a heavy weight in his own right) indicated in the Forward he had lost a lot of sleep reading the drafts. A mind bender...skip

I teach Photoshop both online and at our community center. I would be happy to assist with tis column and to help anyone. I use PSE 3 and Ps Cs and am quite versed in bpth. I hihjly recommend the books by Scott Kelby as they are step by step
