i just received in the mail 2 very nice 40mm filters. red & green, both are bell & howell/canon in original cases.
both have rings in great shape, clear lettering still there and glass that is in so-so shape. nothing that will dramatically alter an image but what looks like tiny zits of rust (?) dotted in places.
most of the time the 40mm filters i find/buy/pay good money for are in worse shape.
i just wish someone would make some new 40mm filters that i could find/afford!

In packing, I just found a 42mm slip on Series 6 adapter, (fits Canon 40mm filter size lenses). It's yours if you want to go the series route. I had a screw in adapter that went with my Canon 35 1.8.

i have a series 6 hood/filter holder and a decent set of series 6 filters also.
but i rarely use them now.
however, i would like this push on adapter if you're willing to part with it.
p.m. me the details.
many thanks,
joe

I have a flat blue case engraved "Canon 1.8/50 filters" made by Waltz with yellow/red/green. Plus one or two lowsize UV-filters (don't use 'em). Would like to have 40mm orange...
Anyway, the 1.5/50 use 40mm, the 2/35 (and 1.8/35), and (so I believe) the last 3.5/100 (black one) too. For a CANON RF guy an important size. Now I've got my second CANON lens using 34mm and I wonder if there are step-up-rings 34-40mm??
cheers, Frank

Joe,
i get my new 40mm filter from B&H or Adorama.
usually one of them is willing to order the multicoated filters from B&W. It will take a while but they will arrive (if UPs doesnt screw it up....)

One 40mm-40.5mm step-up and you're all set.

I hear it is a good resource for filters. They list new Heliopan filters in 40mm - not cheap, but Heliopan and new, hmmm?
Or you could send me all your lenses with that pesky 40mm filter diameter. Then you would not have to worry about it anymore!

i use the 36mm clamp on leitz filters. they work well.
i do think there are step up rings but might be hard to find.

Hi Joe,
There is a seller in "that" place selling 40mm skylight filters for 99p. Get some of these and then replace the glass with some from 40.5's or 39mm.

I don't know, haven't tried it yet! I should have a box of odd bits and pieces waiting for me when I get back to work. In there are 3 pale blue 40mm filters in silver frames which cost me 99c each. I intend to try to find out with some FSU 40.5 I have. One of the problems may be that I don't think there was a "standard" glass size for ay particular size of filters. Certainly there is a variation in 49 and 52's. It may not work but it beats the hell out of paying $40 or so!
You might also want to try SRB in the UK http://www.srbfilm.co.uk/index1.html They do all sorts of custom jobs etc. I am tempted to contact them to see what they can do. It might be possible to get a reasonable deal on a "bulk" order. If so I will put a poll here to see who is interested.

Sorry Bill, I missed that one. It must have gone "read" whilst I went to help the wife staple new covers on the dining room chairs.

Have not found that yet, but

I have ordered from Filter Find before. Very good to do business with. I see they have 40mm filters in their Clearance section.
