Congrats..don't let the bullsh!t brand legends intimidate you. They're just cameras, and they're not that out of reach.
Deals can always be had, if you're patient. Older M-series bodies are always around...ditto for lenses. Be patient, save your money -- and until then it sounds like you have a camera you like and can have some fun with.

Leica aren't going to let themselves be associated with crap. It may not be an 'M' but there can be no doubt that the mini zoom will perform as good, if not better than most P&S zooms out there. It retailed at $415 back in 1995, so not a disposable! I'm through 27/36 in mine and will see how it compares to my current fave, the Rollei Prego 90. It would have to go some to beat that one.

I just passed on Prego 90 because no matter how good glass it has, it still is P&S. Not that I don't use P&S cameras at all, just I have enough of them. If I carry weight, I want some direct control over exposure and focus.

I've owned a lot of P&S zooms and the Prego 90 blows the pants of the others, although it will be interesting to see the results from the Leica Mini Zoom and do a comparison. Yashica T Zoom, Fuji DL Super Mini Zoom, Contax TVSIII, Canon Sureshot Classic 120 are some of what fell to it.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what this Leica has done. It gets a lot of positive reviews around the net.

I had a Rollei Prego 115, it was a nice camera. The Classic 120, every time I bid on one it sells high, every time I don't it sells low. I still keep trying, though. I liked the T4 (non-zoom), but at the time I had it and the price I could get for it, compared to what I paid for it, I really couldn't justify NOT selling it. Right now, my favorite is the Lexio, but the Olympus XA3 (close enough to a P&S for me) is a contender for my favorite tiny camera. I think that I took maybe my best photo ever with the XA3 a couple of weeks ago.
I'm pretty impressed with the Samsung Maxima 1350Ti that I bought for basically nothing, but it's slightly too big to be a true pocket-size camera. The Canon Z135 is nice too, and usually a bargain, but once again, it is a little on the large size. And unless shooting 800 ASA or faster, the long zooms on both of those are too slow for hand-held stuff. The Z135 is very nice for macro shots, though.
I am looking forward to trying the little Leica, and it should be here in plenty of time for the upcoming holiday, I hope to get some good shots of a nice roasted turkey and some pumpkin pie. 🙂

Well, the Leica Mini Zoom is not small. It's smaller than the Prego 90 though, which is huge for a P&S. Although The crown must surely go to the Rollei QZ35w for the largest P&S. It's humongeous, as big as an SLR. It's also very crap and gets clobbered by the Prego for performance. My biggest regret is the QZ35w. Biggest as in big and biggest as in crap. When I get a chance to finish the roll off in the mini zoom I will be keeping my fingers crossed as I really need to see things going in a good way. Wasting over £500 on an overrated QZ35w and a dodgy Hexar AF has not sat well with me. If the Leica turns out to be a little gem then I may start to feel the love again.

I received the Mini Zoom today, and it in excellent condition and feels very solid, there is nothing "cheap" about this camera at all. It is bigger than I expected, about the same size as a Nikon L35AF. It even came with a fresh battery, and a roll of Fuji Superia 400 36 exposure, so I am ready to shoot. The shutter makes a really neat sound. And the zoom seems pretty fast.
