I wonder if film might make a comeback someday like this

Don't call it a comeback - film's been here for years. (Thanks LL Cool J)
Anyway, add me to the list of film shooters and vinyl users. My girlfriend got me a good turntable a couple of years ago and I've been purchasing new and used vinyl ever since. I still buy the occasional CD too because the sound quality has really improved over the years.
I buy CD if I want to listen to it in my car or import it into iTunes. However many of my LPs now come with digital download keys, so for no extra cost I get an MP3 version in addition to my vinyl. That's smart marketing!
Although I was an early adopter of the iPod I hardly ever use it anymore. Only with its external speaker set when camping in fact. For personal portable listening I got a Minidisc player off eBay. Way better sound quality and battery life.
You can have your so-called convenience - I'll take quality any day!

I'd estimate in terms of actual use vinyl is used by much smaller segment of the population as their primary media for music, than use film for photography.

At my son's Cub Scout meeting I was paging through his handbook (last updated in 2008), and had to snap this pic. In the photography section, there isn't even a mention, not even a notion, that photos can be taken digitally. Yeah, make sure you put those negatives in transparent envelopes, NOT paper, Johnny, when you're done fiddling with that "i-phone"... I think the next section is about organizing a rubber drive. It's comforting, in a way.

At the exact moment I took this picture, the scouts were discussing 3G data networks.
