I spent a week in Iceland in early May, amid the chaos caused by the Eyjafjallajökull eruption. I drove around Route 1, a ring-road that circles the entire island. It is a truly extraordinary country, every day threw up contrasting landscapes and conditions. If you have any interest in landscape photography get yourself to the land of fire and ice!

I took my Pentax 6x7 because I didn't think grand vistas are really suited to a square-format camera. Many of my photos were taken using a graduated neutral-density filter which came in very handy.

I took an unusually large number of photographs, which is frankly unsurprising given all the photo opportunities. As such I haven't even managed to scan all of my film, but here are few that I have uploaded. Please click on the images to access larger versions.

I like the horse image, although I think it would balance better if you cropped off the bottom and right a bit.

What a pity about bad weather... Although I find b/w adequate and opportune to the dramatic tints of the places visited, vivid colours of landscapes (green, red, brown, etc.) and the blond horses would have been equally nice to see !

Impressive photographs.

I just made a walk through your Flickr portfolio and you have a hell out of memories there. congrats.

Fantastic set. It gets me to thinking that Iceland, much like NYC, is possible impossible to do injustice to, photographically. By no means a dis-service to your shots though mate - they are stunners!

These are great photos, I've seen them on flickr and I have to admit I've returned since several times to view them again. I've always doubted that for places like Iceland is BW photography somehow inpropriate, that they ought to be shot in colour. But your pictures make me reconsider this...

Last three are phenomenal.
I'd love to go back there again.
I've got the greatest memories of that island.
