Love the pictures, the blue pick up is funny. Going to Iceland on my honeymoon as well, already thinking about what gear to take with me.
 
These are great - I only had my digital images survive from icelend but worked mostly in film. Lazy attitude and cutting corners on my end had them mostly degrade from poor fixing. Really love these photos man, is the second last one in that geothermal power plant I forget its name.
 
Lovely photos. Really lovely. I trust the REAL reason for the visit went well too!

One other thing - don't be afraid to get the subject off centre - creates more tension/ movement esp if the background is also interesting.

Mister Jelly, take the smallest, easiest camera you can and have a great honeymoon would be my experienced advice. There's always another opportunity to take photos, never another time for the honeymoon.
 
Very nice indeed! Makes me want to sell my M9-P and get my R-D1s out of the box again -- and spend the money on a trip somewhere interesting!
 
Congratulations to you and the new missus, Chris! Looks like the Iceland trip went well. You don't need a lot of gear when traveling, it just gets in the way after a while. Left you some favorites on Flickr.

and you make me miss my rd1 cameras and wish that someone would resurrect that camera!

I hear you ! 😀 I was thinking about taking the Mamiya C3, but then I thought about my poor fiancee. So maybe just the M3, 50mm elmar and the fuji XE-1 as a backup..

Thanks! In terms of what to take, I agree that keeping it simple is the key. I just took the r-d1 and a ziplock tripod (the super lightweight one that folds out like tent poles, it's brill) - if you visit places as part of a tour you often don't get very long to set up complicated gear. And take several batteries as the cold kills them - my camera was ok but our iPhones behaved very strangely.

Thanks for the comment. What a shame about your film pictures. I suppose it's a learning experience but quite a painful one! The second to last picture is inside the Harpa Concert Hall on the coast. I'll add proper titles and descriptions to the pictures later this week, but not sure if that'll break the img links.

Thanks, the R-D1 has its quirks but to me it's a brilliant camera and although a new version would be interesting, I don't feel limited by it and don't think there's any need for a newer one especially. I'm always tempted to 'upgrade' but then I think 'why?' - why did you sell yours, I remember you had two?
 
And finally thanks to everyone for the kind wishes, we did indeed have a lovely honeymoon and although we were very tired afterwards (despite hoping to 'relax' this time - we always do so much on holiday) we enjoyed it immensely!

Which time of the year did you go? I see snow in a few pictures and no snow in others...

Thanks Robert. We were there last week, so we saw their first day of summer. It's generally between -1 and +6 at low altitude and stays light until about 10pm. The high altitude areas are permanently snow covered so the snowy pictures in my gallery are on top of a glacier where we went snowmobiling, which was excellent. Even so, most mornings in the lava fields around the city there was a dusting of snow that didn't melt away until past lunchtime.

I'd love to visit during their winter too - a friend was there during record snowfall which was even on the news in the UK and it looked great, but I think it caused some travel problems.

One of the things I loved about Iceland is the fact that each place looks so different, making it difficult to develop pictures with any sort of theme or similar look. Some pictures look like I've changed the colours or saturated them too much but it really is that varied!
 
Thanks for your answer Ped, what I like in your photos here and on your Flickr is that are not the "already seen 1000 times" I oft see about Iceland. Your eye and your camera did a great job!
