Nice images! Trying to plan a trip to Iceleand this summer so these are inspiring.
Once again I'm flored by the quality of EPSON color. It's truly one of a kind. If we are destined to never see an R-D2, at the very least I would love for Epson to licence their color algorithms to some other camera company.

I agree - Epson got something color-related TOTALLY RIGHT with the R-D1.
I use a Leica M9 now, after 3 years with an R-D1, and need to adjust nearly every image in Lightroom, while the majority of R-D1 shots were pleasing to me as shot. If the R-D1 had 10-12 MP, I probably would have kept it.

YeahI love the colour from this camera and also think it does B+W really well, which is what I mostly use. In Lightroom all I need to do is crop/straighten then do some dust spotting (especially as I was at f11 most of the time in Iceland!) then I just up the clarity and adjust the exposure. Very rarely do I need to do anything else. The 6mp files are lovely to work with and I have no need for bigger images; I've successfully printed yup to A3 for framed pictures and I'm sure I could go larger but don't expect I ever will.

Congratulations!
Man I love that country so much. Very special place, so hard to leave once you're there.
Were you lucky enough to see any lights? I hit the jackpot when I went.

Thanks, yes it was hard to leave but we were quite tired by the end, not to mention skint after buying so many meals out!
We didn't;t see the lights, or book a tour to see them, because it's not a great season for them currently and we didn't want to risk it. But it gives us an excuse to go back... although I think we may try Norway next perhaps.

I know that feeling, I ate out once while I was there and lived off tins of beans and bananas for most of the trip. And they still weren't cheap.
Sounds like a great excuse! Where ever you end up try to take a cable release or remote shutter of some sort, it'll allow you to set up the camera and shoot but still take it all in with your eyes at the same time. Auroras are worth seeing without a viewfinder.

Congratulations to you newlyweds! Lovely pictures. I'll go there this summer and have been planning on shooting black and white film plus the Ricoh GR for digital, now I think color film might be the way to go! Although with less snow, in summer it might not look quite as glorious any more. May I ask what ISOs you have been using most when shooting hand held? Although in Summer there will be more light...
BTW, your images look way over-sharpened (check out the halos around the concrete frame in the first one, and on the left edge of the big building in the second) I suppose flickr does that, it may be better to not sharpen at all before uploading. Oh, I just read you applied clarity in Lightroom, there's the culprit. Edit: After looking through your pictures more, it really seem to be only a few of them.

Hi there
Yes I was surprised with how many colour shots I used, normally I 'see' in B+W and often tend to use it more often but from the earthy colours to the crystal white snow it just works well in colour. It was very bright usually, so I was at ISO200 nearly all the time and could easily have gone lower if I was able to. If I took film then 100 would be about right in the summer. Handheld I was usually at f8-11 and between 125 or 1000/s.
I know what you mean about the halos, the 'clarity' slider does that a bit in high contrast areas but it's not something I can get too concerned about honestly. Maybe I'll try and up my PP game and see if I can localise the clarity a bit more carefully.
