Iconic Photo of Sandy in NYC

Now that the initial post has been changed to a link I think everyone can rest easy 🙂

Copyright issues in this day of such ubiquitous and easy sharing is certainly a hot topic.

FWIW, I was the creative director of a record label for a number of years and our legal team made it very clear that the "cover" of a CD, Book, Magazine, etc is considered public and can be reproduced by anyone for any reason so long as it's the whole cover. Chop off the band name, album title, or anything like that and it becomes and issue, but reprinting the cover is never an issue as the whole point of a cover is that it's seen.

I would have thought the perfect way to do the first post in this thread would have been to write what sol33 did in post #7: a link to the photo rather than a re-post of it, and a credit the photographer who made it.

Actually, sol33 in #7 posted a link to a NY Magazine page which includes the photo. This is completely legitimate. And, it is a great photograph.

The OP posted a link to a jpg image, stripping away all the other elements on the NY Magazine page. This so-called "deep linking" is controversial. To me, it is less legitimate than sol33's.
