Recently I've given away a couple of items I no longer use to other RFF members who happened to mention they were looking for them, and other kind RFF members have done the same for me.

That got me wondering: What do people think of the idea of having a forum (or something) where each of us could post a "wish list" of minor items we're seeking?

This would be different from a time-specific classified posting -- it would be more a static list of things for which we're always on the lookout.

That way, when Member A is cleaning out a drawer and decides he really ought to get rid of that 48mm Skylight filter, or Aires rewind crank, or film container full of miscellaneous camera screws, or whatever, he could search or browse the wish list and maybe find that Member B is looking for exactly that item -- thereby sending to an appreciative home something that otherwise might have just gone into the trash.

Whaddaya think?

Yes, that is a good idea. More often than not, these peripheral items come as part of a larger item bought or won. I wouldn't mind sending it to someone who can use it.

It would be nice if the person getting the free item give or post something he/she does not need to add to the pool of free stuff, similar to book exchange programs in some libraries.

I think having a place to list items you want to give away is an excellent idea.. I'm sure I have many things I could contribute.. I'm not so enthusiastic about posting things you would like to find.. if only that it might make it difficult to sift through the "being offered" items and the "wish list".. if there is a good way to separate or differentiate them, I'm all for it

I think a giveaway list would be great. Recenlty I posted a couple of odds and ends but I guess they just got buried in the threads. Someone ought to find a use for almost anything we have and don't want around anymore.

Wish list would be good too. But I feel that people probably wont update wish lists to reflect fulfilled wishes 🙂. Also, for serious items a WTB can easily be placed. However, for tidbits, people might not often realize that they want it until they see it. In fact, I think one single giveaway thread (like the cam/coffee thread) will do nicely. You can just throw in something and someone might pick it up. A little thrill to look forward to for everyone.

Great idea! I do tend to give odds and ends away. BTW Has anybody got a double rear lens cap (I mean the one to couple two lenses in your bag) for Leica M? I can't seem to find one! I'd pay for it!

I consider an MP minor, same with a 50mm Summilux. 😀

This is a good idea imho but I guess it's one of those things that will have to be "personalized" because not everyone will need/want the same things (save for the Leica stuff of course) 😉

And I'm thinking from a programming standpoint; you're going to have to have nothing but empty fields to input your information since you can't accomodate for every single piece of equipment out there.

Still a good idea though 🙂

Cheers

The problem is that it will be an enormous thread and reading through it will be hard after a while. A searchable database would be better for this.

I think. 🙂

Perhap there could be a text block added to the information page on each user ID. That could be where people could list things in a "wish list" kind of way? And, if the board software allows it, add a context menu choice for that list to the drop down you alread get clicking on a user ID?

The wishlist is a brilliant idea, and I think William's suggestion is probably the way to go.

I've got lots of odds and ends I no longer need, such as a 52mm lens cap, a few small camera bags, etc.
