My new 50 year-old Summicron arrived today! It looks good on the Bessa R, making a nice compact combo.

Foo. You shouldn't show me things like that! Now I just have to go get a R2C to put my new to me pre-war collapsible Sonnar on!

:D

Looks really good Frank. Can't wait to see some shots from it.

Very, very nice.

It collapses all the way without a problem?

No problem. I set the camera at B and opened the camera back to check, and the collapsed lens comes nowhere close to the shutter

I've got to buy some film tomorrow!

Frank, you surprise me!
Don't you have a stash at home? :D

BTW, it's really a nice combo....
And that 'cron should be a killer lens!
I know mine is, despite the fact it has serious coating damage.

FrankS,
I've got a stash of film in my fridge. If you send my the Bessa, I'll glady load it up for you and return it after complete testing.
Trust me ~ ; - )

Now that's a mighty generous offer, nwcanonman, but I really couldn't impose upon you like that.

I used to have a stash of film but since these rangefinders came along it's hard to keep the frig stocked! They go through film like teenagers go through food.

Thanks for all your kind words and you can bet I'll have some results to post real soon. I've got to go buy some film.

Frank -- I keep coming back and looking at your silver R and collapsible Summicron. It looks so right. How much are collapsible Summicrons going for?

Joe just does not want the Summicron on the Canon P!

Okay: Summicron-> Bessa
Canon 50mm F1.8-> Canon P?
What about the little Leica IIIf?????

Thanks Gordon,
I got this Summicron for $250 with the help of Don (gaijin30) who saw it in a camera shop in Idaho (!) and told me about it. I think that was an excellent deal considering the condition of this lens. (Perfect glass on a 50 year old lens with soft coating!) Kevincameras has some (up to $550) and Igorcamera had one too for a good price.
I think it's an ideal combination: inexpensive but capable new camera body with premiere vintage glass. I've still got to buy some film today!

The Leica IIIf is for when I'm feeling really retro. I'd like to get a CV 50mm brightline finder for it because it's viewfinder is just so squinty (compared to the Canon VI-L and Bessa R). I have a collapsible FED lens (Industar 22) coming from Norway to make a really compact package and hopefully another character lens signature. It will probably live on the IIIf (until I find an inexpensive Summar.) Does it ever end?
