ideal combo

Sorry Joe!

Several years ago I had a Leica III with Summar lens and I took this shot with it. This lens has nice qualities. I sold the outfit with a bunch of other photo gear to raise money to buy a 1981 BMW R100.

hey frank, only kiddin' with 'ya.

i think i was drawn to the summitar because from what i have read it might be the kind of lens i would try myself (if i were ever captured by the dark side).
i'll keep a look out for a summar.

btw, that is one great photo!
is that your son, he's a great looking kid.

Thanks Joe. Yes, that's Tom, only he's 9 now and giving me and his teachers grey hair.

Joe, did I read that correctly? You're thinking about Leitz glass?

(Rather than looking for a Summar for me, please keep an eye out for a cheap Canon 50 f1.5 with scratched/damaged front element/barrel/focussing mount. I still want to complete my lens.)

Great kit you have there Frank. Wish I still have my Heliar 50mm/3.5! Sell and regret! :(

Frank, I thought I was coming down with the flu; then I realized I was just green with envy. Great buy; enjoy it and I love your shot of your son.

The Leica IIIf is for when I'm feeling really retro. I'd like to get a CV 50mm brightline finder for it because it's viewfinder is just so squinty (compared to the Canon VI-L and Bessa R). I have a collapsible FED lens (Industar 22) coming from Norway to make a really compact package and hopefully another character lens signature. It will probably live on the IIIf (until I find an inexpensive Summar.) Does it ever end?
I've been thinking of getting a CV 50mm brightline as well. I think it would be good to use on all my FSU cams, and even my Bessa R2 because of it's 1:1 viewing. I like shooting with both eyes open. Hmmm, thinking out loud, I'll bet one would be good to use on my Olympus OM-1 too. Heck, the OM-1 is quieter and scarcely any larger, than my Zorki 4K :D

Has anyone here used a CV 50mm brightline? Is it practical for glasses wearers?

I have one residing on a Keiv II now, and it works fine with glasses although I do have to press up to the finder a bit. My glasses are glass so they don't scratch as easily as plastic.

I bought the finder to use with a IIIf and a CV 50 Nokton because the lens blocked out so much of the camera's finder. Solved that problem by buying a Canon 7 for the Nokton.

I have to say Frank has a fine combo in that CV R & Summicron. I have been itching for a screwmount Summicron for a while, but have never seen one at a reasonable price. :(

I think Leica did us all a disservice when they brought out the M-mount and did not continue the forward/backward compatibility thing with a M-mount adapter threaded onto a basic LTM. I hope Cosiina doesn't make the same mistake giving us great new glass that can't be used on our screw cameras.

Frank, I love that shot of your boy and his dog.

They are a very capable duo. I've got to buy some film.
Looks great, Frank! Collapsing the lens sure makes it flatter. You'll enjoy exploring that lens's character I expect. Another "got to", BTW, is to switch the viewfinder frameline lever to "50". :)

Denis would be very proud of me, I just made a lens shade from an aspirin bottle. It's in the basement right now but the black paint should be dry by tomorrow. Did you catch that? Not merely chrome or black chrome, but black paint!
