Idiot???

My experience is the opposite: the bulk of my photography has been with AF cameras, and with focusing for every image. It wasn't until rangefinders entered my life that I began to shoot without refocusing each time, and even then, I would habitually tweak the focus ring just to be sure.

Recently, I discovered that a number of digital cameras allow you to focus once and keep shooting as long as you do not allow the shutter button to come all the way up. If you focus once by half-pressing, and only allow the button to come back to the half-press position, many cameras will retain that focus for as long as you keep it that way.
