If a Tree Falls in the Forest ...........

After storms in the Northwest, some trees fall and then give life to new trees, ferns and fungi .
While one of our members did have a shock by natures forces, we can all be happy in knowing there is beauty in the end. 🙂

Am I getting you right Kiev4a? Are you alluding to some relativistic principle? If you are, that is a very funny way to put it 🙂 .

Anand,
I'm guessing that you're not married?

He He. I do get the man-wrong-woman-right thing (though you are correct, I'm not married). It's just that there's this relativistic thing (to put it in a very crude manner) that amounts to 'if you can't measure it, it didn't happen'. Like you're inside a room and have no way of communicating with anything outside it, and something happens outside. As far as you are concerned, it didn't happen at all.
I thought you were using the man-woman thing as a manifestation of that principle. Anyway, I do appreciate your way of including the forest in this battle of the sexes. It's very funny. However, this is all too OT and I must behave 😀 .

If a man speaks in the forest, and there is no woman to hear him, is he still wrong?

I have been married to the same woman for 38 years, gentlemen. The above statement is an absolute.

I once wrote a newspaper column on the statement. I related an incident one night when my mate and I were debating whether the moon was full. I said it was. She said it wasn't. My conclusion was that it really didn't matter who was correct because, in such matters, the smart man just accepts the fact that he is wrong even if he knows he is right. Some single women who read the column said it was insulting to their gender and were offended. Most married women who responded tought is was falling-down-laughing funny. Young single males didn't have a clue what I was talking about. Married men agreed it was funny their laughter was more restrained than that of their mates.

Anand,
You are correct though. The quote to start the thread was taken from the "If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it ...... did it make a noise?"
From my simplistic veiwpoint, the act of it falling caused sound vibrations, so of course it made a noise (sound?). Every act has cause and effect, whether we self-important humans are involved with it or not ~ ; - )

Kiev4a,
Every married man eventually learns those two most important words, "YES DEAR".
Of course, he reverses it to "NO DEAR", when appropriate ie, "Does this make me look fat?" LOL.

Aw com'on. Chain saws are too easy! Last time that happened to me, I used the "ring saw" from my backpack. You know, the piece of piano wire, with rough edges, and finger rings on both ends.
Whew, sure does make your fingers sore ~ ; - )

If a man speaks in the forest, and there is no woman to hear him, is he still wrong?

Obviously, in the forest, in the mall, in the living room, wherever, if the man is able to get a word out, there is no woman. Therefore, he won't know if he is wrong until he returns home from the forest, at which point his wife will inform him as to whether or not he had permission to be wrong.

Oh yeah... unusual photo... I like it!

In case someone has a drive to hike in the Olympic Rain-Forest, where this photo was taken. It's on the Lake Irely trail east of Lake Quinault, off Hwy 101. It's just south of Forks, WA, where it rains over 120 inches a year. Does that explain the verdant scenery? ~ ; - )
