I guess a Nissan Sunny or something like that. Universally derided by Mercedes drivers (who send their Benz to mandatory service every 15.000 km and only take it out on a sunny day), but it's affordable and gets you and your stuff from A to B. And it has its little quirks and contains lots of plastic, but it runs for 400.000 kilometers on the first engine.

Boy, you guys are cruel... what about clarifying you were talking about a Bessa R?

To me, the newer M-mount Bessas would be something like a Nissan or a Toyota, and the Leicas, a BMW: classy, looks good, handles well and all that, but has pricy repair and maintenance and can be pretty moody at times.

Mind you: two different Beemer owners told me this.

R = 2CV
R2/R3 = Mercedes / Dodge Sprinter
R4 = Pacer, the first wide small car
L = Ford Model A
T = the original Hummer

B2 (;->

:p thats why I edited my original post to help clarify on the models. From my understanding the R2 and R3 are very similar aside from frame lines thus why I chunked them together.

I've had an R4M for a couple of weeks and I'm thinking Honda or Toyota: Seems pretty reliable, comfortable, does what I need it to do and does it well while costing at least a third of its more high-falutin' brethern who do exactly the same things.

I have an M4 and an RF, no Bessas. But I'm really impressed with them.

I think the styling is great, really form follows function, and far better than some of the monstrous cosmetic frippery Leica offers.

A proper Leica would be a Jensen Interceptor, a Bessa a Triumph Spitfire.

The other Leicas would definitely be BMWs - cars driven by low-life criminal types who like pimping their rides.

I think a classic Barnack model would be like a nice diesel Benz; will run forever with minimal maintenance, doesn't have a lot of frills, is a bit clunky, but adored by their owners and those who appreciate fine machinery.

As for the Bessas, I would say L = Geo Metro. Cheap, kind of plasticky feeling, but gets the job done and doesn't fall apart right away.

Barnack = VW Kaefer
Bessa L = Bicycle
Bessa T = Hayabuza
Bessa R = Swatch car
Bessa R[234]* = Camry

Canon P = 911

Leica M3 = Shelby Cobra, the Ur-Roadster.

Leica M8 = Tesla

:)

Cheers,

Roland.

I have a Leica M2 a Leica M6 several Nikons 3 Nikorex all the Olympuses and Yashicas, 4 canons 3 Minoltas, a Leica F, one Rolly, and a Bessa R2 and you know what, I keep going back to the Bessa, to me it is like a nice Honda Accord it is allways there when you need it, and very confortable to work with
