If they made me camera-Czar I would mandate a universal battery (or better yet, AAs) and a universal charger. Making a $1000 machine dependent on a proprietary small-run battery is (and always has been) madness from the consumer's point of view. It used to be that you spend a kilo-buck and got something that would last 15-25 years of hard use (Nikon F3, Pentax LX, Hassie 500, Leica M-anything etc.). Now you are a member of a 2-year consumer club. Feh.

Post your own comsumer-Czar edicts.

...or at least an adapter for other batteries. I suggested to Leica that they should make an adapter, like a Leicavit, that would go on the base of M-digis and take AAs.

Meanwhile, why not force people to standardize on the only two mounts that are worth anything: Leica M 4-claw and Nikon 3-claw? All right, Canon breech-lock was good but even Canon abandoned it.

Cheers,

R.

I agree...partially, many cameras have optional adapters but usually this means having to use less powerful batteries or give up some functions: Cfr. Pentax and some Olympus which can use a AA adapter or most Nikon grips which also have adapters.

But I agree that universal stuff is nice and, if I were a camera-Czar I would definitively punish Sony for their flash mounts as well as Pocket Wizard for their zirillion cables.

All quick release heads to use the same (*%^$)(*&@ mounting plate !

A better flash contact than the PC contact.

Reinforced tripod sockets.

All strap lugs to be reinforced with stainless steel.

The return of the Japan made Vivitar 283 and the VP-1 !

Reduce the number of proprietary flash connectors-why does every flash maker have to have a different connector where the sync cord plugs into the flash ?

The legal right to punch idiots who ask if you're taking a picture when you've got a camera on a tripod with a lens a foot long on it.

My first act as camera Czar would be to impose a $0.0001 dollar tax on every digital image written to a memory card.

My second act would be to buy my own island in the South Pacific.

I must of missed that memo. I am still using an Olympus E-410 (my only digital) purchased new but discontinued in March, 2009. I'll use it till it quits.

huge cash rewards for the advancement of film technology.

free film to poor folks who want to shoot photos.

a centralized office of film development where people could send their film and be guaranteed a good price and service by quantity of scale. people could mail in their film at their local post office with specialized packages and have a dvd, cd or prints delivered to them. it would be advertised so people knew it actually existed rather than places like Dwaynes or Precision Camera that are only known to film shooters.

film production facilities dedicated to keeping many different films alive. honestly we need tech pan and kodachrome back even if you have to lose money on each roll.
