If you could own only one camera...

If it has to be...digital...it would be the biggest, baddest, newest, FF and last DSLR that Nikon would ever produce...I only want to do this one time...
I learnt this years ago...Buy the Best and Cry Once...

Not the RD1S, even It's one of my favorite cameras.

I would choose my D700, I think is the more complete, usefull, versatile camera I ever own.

Cheers.

Sylvain.

If you could own only one camera...would the R-D1 be it??? Why? If not what would you recommend?

What's a R-D1...???

In 35mm...Nikon F5

In MF...Rolleiflex 2.8 (not sure exactly which model) I have the Mamiya m645 system with three bodies and six lenses...looking for the 145mm soft focus...
I also have the Yashicamat 124g...both cameras are super nice and I used them BUT I would mind trying that Rollei...

In RF's...Nikon SP

In LF...I have the Zone VI view camera & I'm very happy with that...:D

Hey...I posted earlier...silly me...I still stand by my choices...as I don't really want a digital camera...yet...

Now, if you could only write with only one letter, which one would you choose?

Here in Europe, it would be 'I', in Japan it would be ノ or し.

But seriously: I posted before, that the R-D1 would be okay for me as the one and only, nevertheless, I also would be unhappy, if I could only have one.

I notice, that most of the answers choose to have a complete and full featured system with as many possibilities as one could get. I think, the deeper meaning of the question is, to what extend you can reduce your gear and still do pleasing photography.

The R-D1 would be a serious limitation to my possibilities, but since I own it, I have more fun with photography as ever before. The limitations are just what makes the fun. With my monster-ultra-full-featured-DSLR and all the perfect lenses (which I also often use, when it's necessary) I could obviously do more, but would it make me happier? I guess not.

I would choose a Leica M9, but I haven't got enough money…
So, I choosed an Epson R-D1 and I can survive with only that camera!

I followed an Italian street 'artist' around for several months last year, he used the Hasselblad H4D-40 medium-format DSLR. THAT is the camera I would own above all others, but it'd be a short ownership followed by a long spell in the madhouse for splashing fifteen grand on a camera.

if I could only own one digital camera from the ones I own, it would be a hard choice. The interchangable lenses of the Olympus E-P1? The pocketable size of the Ricoh GR Digital? Or the Foveon images of the Sigma DP1? The Ricoh might just win that one on size and battery life. If I fully charged the batteries in all three, then left them in a drawer for a month, the only one I'd be able to pull out of the drawer and go shooting with would be the Ricoh.

If it was ANY digital camera, and money was no object, Leica M9, I think.
