Considering both lenses are similar in price which would you get?

Leica tri-elmar 16-18-21 f4

or

Zeiss 15mm f2.8 ZM

I know about the CV15 but am not interested.

Should note that the Zeiss is not coupled.

The wide tri elmar is also not coupled- I'd get the Zeiss hands down or the CV 12mm on the cheap.

I'd probably ge the Zeiss too. I experienced a lot of quality using my 2/35 Biogon. It must be a great lens but kinda huge. I'd go for it, a 2,8/15 lens, damn 😀

2.8 vs. 4 is a big difference

The other "BIG" consideration is that on the wide Tri-Elmar, it is not currently possible to use both a hood and IR filter. I think Leica really got caught with their pants down on that one.

I am also thinking about something super-wide like that.

For the sort of stuff I do with RF, 28mm is wide enough. I use SLR for anything wider than 28mm:
- 12-24mm zoom
- 24mm f/1.4
- 24-105mm f/4 zoom (my "standard lens").
If I ever get an M8, I'll get a 21, and maybe a 24/25. But that would be just to reach the 28mm equivalent FOV.

The CV is a great lens. don't get me wrong. When they stop making the Zeiss 15 it should fetch some nice $'s The 15mm f8 hologon is fetching close to 10k these days. You just never know.

Maybe. When it comes check it out on a film camera. They say over on the LUF that it vignettes horribly. It may look OK on the M8 but I would check it on the MP as well...

I have the beast and it's an fantastic lens. Make sure you get the filter and view finder as part of the package. The lens is very sharp accross the board. It is quite big so find a big spot in your bag for it. Enjoy it !

The 15mm f8 hologon is fetching close to 10k these days.

The 15mm Hologon was made up from the residue of the Hologon Contarex production and Leitz only marketed about 300 (?) so the collectors wet their pants when they see one of 300, there were not that many Contarex made either...
If they make 1000s of Zeiss they may be good collectors but hardly in the 15mm Hologon class.
The CV may be cheap but it may behave better than a Hologon which needs a centre filter with colour slide film and is thereby exposed to iris images, at least my 16mm Hologon (G) has a tendancy to iris image.
I'm thinking about selling the G (a G1) the 28mm & the 16mm Hologon and getting a CV, you have some reason for not liking it?

C'mon, a 15mm lens simply doesn't need to be coupled. The depth of field focused at 4 meters should keep you in focus from around 1.8 meters to infinity at f/2.8!

Jorge needs a new investment advisor.. apparent his also happens to be his camera dealer and has some how convinced Jorge to sink thousands into lenses he doesn't really use (otherwise he would actually have a clue about what he is looking for in a lens) for their investment 'potential'...

btw - i hear that you should start collecting Cohibas... once Fidel dies they're going to be worth a lot more ...!!! ;P
