if you were to buy...

all is on hold...

i may just sell the r4m and decide on what to do with the money later on. (girls, booze, gear, travel;))
or i may keep it and use the 2 r4's together.

Good move, Joe. Come on down, plenty of girls and booze here ! :)

I third the Pentax *ist DS recommendation, though it seems I've seen this thread too late to have any influence. It is what I did myself after a long consideration of merits and my bank account. I'm not regretting it in the least. Have picked up a few more lenses though than I meant to (50-200 for $180! new!) and kit lens (cheap) and a couple of k-mount primes (50/28) who can live without these and a traded 35/2.

Hell, they don't even let us live in the same country, though I'm working on fixing that.

For $549 you can buy a brand new Pentax K100D Super with kit lens. Built-in image stabilizer, self-cleaning sensor, 6MP, AA batteries, 2 year warranty and all those old Pentax lenses!

Concerning the body I fully agree, a great value for the money, but would not waste money on kit lenses. There are plenty of inexpensive used primes to be bought. I recently bought the K100D super with the pancake lenses and use it as a "versatile point and shoot".

All caused by the dSLRs and the use of M42 adapters. ;)

I know!

Man, why don't them DSLR-toters play with their autofocus glasses? just leave the old manual lenses to us...

(speaking as someone who just snag a C/Y and M42 adapters for my E-300 for cheap )

or a d100 for sale in the classifieds...

*whistles*

There was a Coolpix 885 for sale there at one point. I'm not even sure if that's the first DSLR for sale here either, as I don't have time to watch EVERY item posted to the classifieds.

Anandi: Nice choice of lenses for your istDS. May I highly recommend the Pentax SMC ED 16-45. In 35mm terms it's a 24 to 67.5mm. Nice range between it and your 50-200 (75-300 in 35mm terms), You would have most of the bases covered. Which is why I want to get another body - 10D, 100D, I don't really care - so I can mount one lens on each camera. For specialty stuff I'll use my M42 lenses, especially the 50/4 Super Macro Takumar, and the Super Takumar 300/4.

Ted,
Go for the K10. The difference in finder is quite noticeable. ;)

Kim, thanks for the suggestion. I'll see if I can get a peek through both. Does the K01D have the pentaprism like my istDS? I hope so.

Ted

Ted,

According to the Pentax K10D Specification sheet, the K10D uses a
"Pentaprism with Natural-Bright-Matte II focusing screen" instead of the Penta-mirror that the K100D Super uses. I also looked through both a K100 and a K10. I would agree the K10 seems brighter.

The only Pentax dSLRs with a proper pentaprism are the istD, istDS and K10. All the others have had the Pentamirror.

We like it though :D

Joe, for $499 you can have a Nikon D40 including 18-55 lens and it's NEW.

I saw a Nikon D100 selling for $430.00 the other day.
