Low light, big and bright VF, digital.... sounds like you should use the money towards an RD1, Joe. That way, you can use the lenses you already have, and not change your shooting style.
If you get the $500 dslr and kit lens, trust me, it won't be long till you start accumulating a whole set of "better" lenses. In the end you'd have spent more.
