I've read references and threats about placing some people on an "ignore list". Is this a metaphorical list or an actual function of the forum?

It is real. Go into your user CP (control panel ) and look on the menu to the left for "Buddy / Ignore".

... but I do it metaphorically by simply uttering "idiot" when reading the posting of someone for whom I don't trust or believe or want to be bothered by.

I did place someone on my ignore list once ... then unfortunately was eaten up with curiosity wondering what crap they were talking and had to reverse the setting within a day.
Like Gumby ... I do it mentally now. 😀
