Hi, I am brand new to this great fourm. I have been buying and using LTM cameras for a year now and am slowly learning more about them and the pitfalls of Ebay. I have (at least they appear that way to me) a mint IIIg, Ig, and IIIa, and an very nice IIIfrd and IIIfbd, along with a user IIIf I shoot mostly with a 35 2.8 Summaron. I have a 35/3.5 Summaron and a 21 f4 SA that I use as well. I have an immaculate 50mm collapsable summicron that hangs on the IIIg which will likely never be used, only taken for walks.
I was a professional photographer and operated a camera store for 25 years in central Washington with color processing and custom B/W. I grew up using my dad's Rolleiflex 3.5 Tessar and used a little Rollei 35 all through my art days in college. I no longer do darkroom work, and print from scanned B/W film. My frame of reference IS the 35mm angle of view and enjoy looking for the many visual ironies the world at large offers as amusing and/or poignant insights into its rather discombobulated state.
Introduction out of the way, I am curious what you think about this item on ebay: 281049571665
From reading the lengthy thread on wartime grey paint IIIc-ks, I can see it is a minefield out there in Ebayville. This camera, from what I have read, seems like it was not used in the military—since, according to J. Lager, there are no military markings— but the lens seems appropriate to the body? But for all I know, and from the amazing knowledge of Leica lore of folks like LeicaTom, it could have come from K-Mart's dumpster. Any thoughts?
Alternatively, does anyone out there want to sell a legit copy for a reasonable price to a pretty legit guy—at least my dog still thinks so.
I have had a keen interest in WWII since I was kid and would love a camera that had a real story during that time.
TIA.
Gordon
