I just got my Leica IIIc back from Peter Grisaffi at CRR in Luton, UK. He has done a complete overhaul, including replacing the shutter curtains and rangefinder. I also asked him to refinish the camera in his black enamel finish. I have to say that I was bowled over when I first saw the camera: it looks like new, and sounds much healthier too. A fantastic service!

To the left is one he did earlier. I'd echo Ade-oh's appreciation of Peter's fine work – my IIIC was completely worn out and it has been transformed. It too doesn't just look like new, but works perfectly.

The only problem is the fear of the first knock or scratch. Peter claims that the paint he uses (which looks amazingly like the black chrome finish of an M6 or the black finish on the Voigtlander clip-on meter) is very tough, but I am in no hurry to put it to the test. Mine lives in a Zhou half case, which is a nice compromise between protection and practicality – I am using the camera!

nice work on the camera.mine was not to bad out side, inside malcolm taylor replaced the curtains and put a new mirror in the rangefinder. now its pretty well perfect,i like using it with my 50mm f2.8 elmar-hpoe you enjoy yours.

Peter did a IIIc for me also, high gloss black enamel and chrome nobs. An excellent result in the style of a postwar conversion of a prewar camera (if you understand my meaning). The IIIc seems the right camera to change. Often found with a poor original finish and fairly easy to come by in its usual form. It is showing signs of use now so I have got over the early fear of scratches.

The full job came to 490 GBP ($800 USD, 545 Euros). Which seems a lot but I would say I've basically got a new Leica IIIc as a result.

Just when I thought I had all I wanted. Why do people have to post pictures of such gorgeous Leicas? I will not succumb to GAS. I will not . . . Does Peter have an email address? I have two IIIc . . .

That is one niiiiiice IIIc refurb. I especially like the "sharkskin" vulcanite with the Black paint job. Congratulations!

Wow! Wonderful camera.

I've been thinking about getting my IIIf refurbished as well. Do you know, if he can do anything to the chrome and remove scratches and things like that? I really like the way the camera looks brand new, but would perhaps like to keep it chrome.

Alternatively, is it possible to get the lens painted as well, like some japanese places do?

I join the "ooooohh crowd" :)

dont have any Barnack right now, after managing to break my Leica II. wrist strap combined with taking off gloves did the trick on me, and decided not to have another to my clumsy hands. perhaps Fed 2 some day.
