What is the size of the tripod/case mount on a IIIf RD? I'm looking into getting a case (IIIc) from KEH for my IIIf, but they come in 1/4" and 3/8" versions and I'm not sure which is appropriate.
Thanks!
Thanks!

look at the bottom of the camera. Does it fit on your American standard tripods (i.e 1/4) without an adapter? Then thats the one to get. If you use an adapter, then the 3/8s size would be more appropriate. Having said that, I bet you could use a 1/4 case with a 3/8s camera with the adapter mounted in the camera, but then you'd have to take the camera out of the case everytime you want it on your tripod. That make sense?

Mudman,
Yes, it does. Unfortunately, I don't actually have a tripod, adapter, or anything else that screws into the bottom of the camera. I have a couple of cases from FSU gear, but I don't know what size they use either. The Leica wouldn't fit into one of them anyway -- unless I started cutting up cases.

My Leica IIIf RD has a 1/4 inch mounting thread. I think that by the time the IIIfs were made, almost all of the Leicas were made with 1/4 inch threads. My IIIa, from 1935, was built with the 3/8 inch thread and I use an adapter. My case, which was made post WWII, has a 1/4 inch thread to attach to the camera, and a 1/4 inch hole for attaching the whole thing to a tripod.

If it is a quarter inch tripod mount, then it should fit into a Leica screwmount case for 1/4 mount leicas. I know KEH has several in stock. They also have a 7 day return period I believe, so if it doesn't fit, you could send it back.

Thanks, guys. That's exactly what I was looking for.

leica 111 case
Hi
I have a really nice LEICA everready case I want to shift. I no longer need it because I have changed to a Leica 111g. I used to use it for my Standard E with non collapsible lens. It does not work with a 111g, but does with every other Barnack screw mount. It has a 1/4 thread which is great, because if yours is the 3/8, you can use an adapter, which I would provide (2 of them) if you want to use a modern tripod too.
If you're interested, send me an email and i'll send you some pics. I want the case to go to a good home. It even has the original German quality control label with it, which has been signed by the quality control guys in 1940+whenever...

Paul,
Thanks for your generous offer, but I've already got a case on the way. I'm sure somebody will give your case a home.
