In about one out of six or eight tries the shutter release button on my IIIf RDST doesn't rise completely to shooting position(1/16inch down) and the wind knob has to rotate two turns to release it. Moving the shutter speed knob approx. 1/16 inch before winding releases everything for a normal wind. It's mainly a nuisance right now but I don't want to cause damage by doing this long term. I asked Youxin about it and he said it could be the shutter brake and, if it's worn out, it wouldn't be economically worth fixing.
Any ideas?

You asked one of the experts who gave his opinion. I don't think you're going to get much more of a second opinion here, other than to possibly send it in or send it to another tech.

I'd have guessed (but don't know) that it could be dried up lubricants. I would send it to Youxin for a look-see. That will be worth a thousand words.

Franko, I had a similar problem on my IIIf RDST. It would take 2 complete rotations of the film advance knob to cock the shutter, causing 1 blank photo after each shot. I just got it back from Y/Ye for a CLA, and he was able to adjust the shutter brake successfully. It’s as good as new now. Wait time was 3.5 months.
