Leica LTM IIIf take up spool problem

My IIIf has an issue. The supplied take up spool has an inside diameter where it contacts the winding shaft that is apparently a bit smaller than it should be.
The result is that sometimes it pulls the film off the cartridge properly and sometimes it can't overcome the resistance and it just slips when wound.

My cheap Soviet clones have not had this problem. The spool supplied with the camera may not be a Leica original or an exact copy. By the way, I've had a bit of experience with 35mm cameras but not with Barnack Leicas.

Try a different take up spool.

My Leica IIIc that I bought in 1978 came with a Canon spool that has worked just fine all these years.

I have several Canon take up spools. Two are in my pair of IIIc's and work well. The others are seemingly identical but do not work well. Another spool may be the answer. Good Luck. Joe

I think I may have self diagnosed the problem. May not have insured the holes in film were fully engaging the sprocket that pulls the film and may not have had slack out of film cartridge when I loaded the camera! Operator error no doubt! How dare I doubt Leica for even a moment!😀

We have all done that loading a bottomloader camera.

Don't think that if its Leica made it is infallible to breaking, as I had a later bought IIIc that came with the Leitz version of the pop up end Canon spool and this Leitz made spool fell apart. 😱

I repaired the spool it by making it a traditional fixed end take-up spool.🙂
