I know that IIIf Leicas can produce double exposures by turning the shutter speed dial but I am wondering if it can be done with a IIIg? I tried it with a Nicca and it jammed,the shutter but I don't want to risk it with a IIIg?

No need. It's free rotation if shutter not cocked.

Zorkis and FEDs are loose copies of the Leica II, they don't have the latch that the Leica III has, to hold the shutter cocked.

The IIIf double exposure trick will work in the same way in the IIIg. Keep the shutter button pressed in when turning the shutter dial for the extra exposures. Otherwise the film will turn, as well as the winding knob, when the shutter dial is turned to starting position.

Seems to work on my IIIg BUT The shutter can certainly be re-cocked without turning the advance knob though feeling the film sprockets they do move a little as the shutter reaches the pawl so a double exposure would move frame alignment . I guess it would be ok if accurate alignment was not critical

Ahhhh..... That's what needs to be done. I tried double exposure on my IIIf and gave up after the film kept moving.

The method works with the Leica III and Nicca mod. 3. Even seems easier done on these cameras compared to the Leica IIIg.

Hold the button down whilst turning the shutter dial to starting position. Don't let the button go until the shutter dial locks in starting position. It should then give a second exposure on the same frame. It will also help to restrict the movement of the rewind knob to make sure that the film doesn't move.

Winding for the next frame and next exposure may however be affected. The winding pin under the sprocket shaft which engages with the shutter winding may not engage properly, and cause a missed frame. Make sure that the shutter button is fully "up" or else assist the shutter dial during winding to make sure that the film advance and shutter cocking synchronise or engage properly.
