Has anyone attempted to repair the winding mechanism of one of these?

I've just been given one in cream-crackered condition and the two most obvious faults are that the shutter does not fire and that the wind knob can be turned in either direction. One of my Flickr contacts has posted a link to a set on dismantling the shutter, but I can't find anything about the winding mechanism. all I have to go on is that it looks pretty simple - famous last words!

All assistance welcomed!

Yeah, that Flickr page is the extent of my experience with the Advocate - I never had the camera, only duplicated that one part and sent it to the camera's owner in England. If you happen to need that part, I can help you that far.....

Ha ha! I forgot that "cream-crackered" is less than universal, but I'll have to remember it as the opposite of minty! Yes, it's a battered beastie with lots of chips in the enamel. Obviously led a hard life.

Thanks, Rick, I'll be in touch if it is that part. Small world, that's whose photos I'll be using as a guide! Pot metal. Hmm... probably used to be a Spitfire!

I'm obviously not the first person to try as there's a cross-head screw in the film gate so there could be anything in there...😱 Still, all part of the fum, and I have a friend who doesn't mind having my failures as he never uses his collection.

Thanks, everyone.

I may be tempted into giving mine an overall. My "fault" is failure to cock the shutter if a vertical shot is taken, can waste a lot of film as Im a persistent vertical offender!! Then I read this is not a fault it is a feature!!! They "all" do it I'm told.

I'll try to document it as carefully as I can and post somewhere, in the hope that it'll help!

Not just yet, though, long and busy weekend in store.

Rats!

Mine has a different cocking lever, the problem must be in the linkage of that to the pin on the film sprocket as the shutter cocks and trips perfectly by hand, but can I get it to wind on properly? Can I thump!
