I have some rolls of HP5+ and FP4+ to develop. Times are 10 mins for one and 9 minutes for the other. Would it be OK to do both in the same tank and split the difference at 9 mins 30.

Same dilution ? Yes I think it should be fine

I mostly develop HP5+ in DDX @400-800 ISO. There is not much difference between 9 and 10 minutes. Actually I couldn't tell them apart.

yes the dilution is the same. I'll maybe give it a go. This is the first time using DDX so I've no reference. Perhaps i should develop the first rolls independently then work out if they'd be ok + or - 30secs respetively

Not sure about consistency- but can't you put the FP4 on the bottom and pour out half?

From experience, the Ilford documentation for their chemistry and films is excellent and very reliable. Follow their recommendation and you should be ok

I really don't think 30s is going to matter that much, provided he's not agitating like crazy

I never thought of that. What a great idea.

Believe me, you will not see any difference between 9 or 10 minutes. 9.5 minutes will be fine.

NICE.

I tend not to worry about half minutes. There are other variables such as difference in exposure that will be more noticeable. As Ned said DD-X doesn't lose you speed - should get a nice spread on the negs.
