So this is a weird one, ive been re reading my copy of Ansel Adams the Negative and throughout the book he mentions FP5. Obviously that cant be true as ilford has both FP4 and HP5 but they have not made an FP5. Could this be a horrible typo that has occurred throughout the book or was there actually an FP5 at some point?

Both actual films are tested in the book so it is most likely a typo.

An example in my copy is on page 230 of my copy which I think was made in 2016 where it talking about the photo "sun shade in forest, Yosemite national park" the extract is:

"To make the same photograph today I would choose a film such as Kodak Tri X or Ilford FP5 and would employ the two-solution process"

Sorry. Brain fade anyway. I was thinking of HPS.

Ilford did consider releasing the current version of Delta 400 as HP6, but only very briefly, and besides, I think that may have been after AA died.

I'll ask one of my old Ilford contacts (now no longer working for the company) if he has any idea where that might have come from -- but it'll probably be a few weeks before we talk.

Certainly intriguing! Sorry for the initially misleading answer.

Cheers,

R.

No problem man, i actually looked at fps while initially looking but decided it couldnt be, look forward to find out if he knows anything but this probably is just a typo!

Maybe its a super rare collectors item? Yes I see it now - will trade this rare copy for a leica:p

Dear Jake,

Of course! Good luck...

Further thought: The best way to deal with the 21st century is to be at least slightly drunk unless you have to drive.

You have one advantage and one disadvantage here.

Advantage: you haven't had as long to learn to hold your liquor so you can get drunk more cheaply.

Disadvantage: it's harder to buy booze when you're 16.

(Actually it was quite easy when I was 16, in 1966. Have things changed much?)

Cheers,

R.

Now im not saying anything but if i did happen to have a student card which didn't verify my age when ordering and has my picture and date of birth on it i would sometimes use it at corner shops. And if in theory said card existed some of them would accept it as ID.

Obviously this is all theoretical ;) - I dont need to ever worry about driving because you cant drive being blind in an eye here!

either way i spend my money on film most days and deal with problems either directly or I have a darkroom session
