... and I got three rolls from the Focus on Imaging show in the UK last week complete with a Cokin SFX filter.

I can't wait for some decent weather to get out and try it out. OK so the filter is a gelatin job in a plastic holder so I guess I'll just have to hold it in front of the lens but hey I'll probably use a tripod anyway with a filter factor of 16 :eek: thats four whole stops :rolleyes:

Advice, as always here is welcome (no I'm not selling it ;) )
 
Good to hear. Seems like Ilford is doing decent business, if they're able to re-introduce it.

I have a roll over on the bookshelf that is easily 18 months old, and I just can't seem to find a use for it. It's been improperly stored, and has been passed through at least four carry-on baggage scanners. Think it's still good?

With such a dark filter, any light getting behind it will easily spoil your shots. I had the reflection of the chrome bezel of my Yashicamat 124 spoil several of mine. I am taking my SFX to the sunshine next week, hope to get some nice shots. Today I spent half an hour gluing a round piece of the P filter insert into a 52mm hood. It's good, no light getting in behind it, and easy to do.

They still havent got any to New Zealand yet....hey i got a yellow filter for my leica IIIc (filters are hard to find) will that do the job?
 
The film is available in three ways..... 120 film; 35mm 36 ex; 3-packs of film that includes a filter and holder.
You can also order just the filter through your Ilford dealer.
They haven't started shipping yet in North America.

Ilford SFX 200 is a very good film.
Because this is not pure infrared (only with extended sencivity into infrared) it
- can be develop as usual bw film
- we can use usual red (not matter dark or light) filters, but not pure IR filters
There are some shots taken by SFX 200

I read on Apug that this batch of SFX200 can be expected in the U.S. in early April.
I hope Ilford's Mr. Galley (my source) isn't playing a fools joke on us.
Is April Fools day an international (especially British) tradition or something practiced mainly in the U.S.?

Thanks for the heads up on the light leakage. I will share the results when we get some real sun here in England and I'm not stuck at work. The DD-X soup is waiting.
 
Ilford's press release in January gave estimate availability dates:

"Availability in individual markets is dependent on shipping times, but is likely to be in early March for the UK, mid March for European and Nordic markets, April for North America and May for the Far East, Australia and New Zealand."

Personally I can't wait!

According to the press releases I've read, you can get different effects with different filters - yellow, orange, or red. Should be interesting to compare. I'm still waiting for supplies to reach local shops in the UK!
 
Actually, since the Ilford SFX filter is basically a 720 cut-off, you can indeed use an opaque, IR filter with it. The film is very slow, and you have to use something that won't cut off too high (87C will give you blank film), but you'll get the most result with that.

I'm SO glad this film is back! It's fantastic, and you don't have to be incredibly careful when you process it. In other words, Kodak HIE is great and has its own look, but the darkroom I use isn't light tight enough to avoid slip-ups. SFX200 can be handled like a normal roll of Tri-X.
 
I just came across this thread. I can now stop hoarding the expiry 2005 rolls I have in the fridge. I love this stuff this time of year...
 
Is Ilford SFX200 available in Canada? Can you have your camera on "aperture priority" and set the f stop? Do I need too worry about over/under exposure by +/-? I have never tried this infrared film.

SFX is a regular, silver-based black and white film with extended sensitivity to red. It achieves an IR effect if you use it with a 25-red filter (no need to change focus point or worry about DOF with it). If it's used with a regular yellow filter it renders incredibly sharp prints with an outstanding contrast.

I'm glad it's back. I tried two rolls about three years ago, one with a red filter and another with a yellow one... and, to be quite honest, I prefer my prints from the second roll. Now that I can soup my film I'll see to pick a few rolls. After all, at ISO 200 it's a very handy film! :)

Perhaps B&H or Adorama in the US will be more affordable? I haven't done the conversion, but $10.49 seems steep, even with the exchange rate...
